back during the BB tour, they added dodger stadium during the last U.S. leg and it wasn't near sold out. AND i picked up a 450 dollar ticket for 100 bucks.

they performed in LA & OC a total of 5 shows (6 if you include san diego) throughout the course of the tour: 1 anaehim, 2 hollywood bowl, 1 forum, 1 dodger stadium, 1 san diego stadium

i attended anaheim, the 1st hollywood bowl show, the forum show and all we're sold out (or as close to sold out as i could remember)
but the dodger stadium show was not close to being sold out.

thus playing a bunch of shows in a single market, especially at their price tags, will never work.

it didn't work back during the BB tour (and this is with spreading out these shows over 3 legs). i'd expect a couple of shows per market up front and that's about it.

How, you may wonder, would it be possible for the Rolling Stones to play only three cities during their 2013 tour, and still make it the highest grossing tour of all time, topping U2's mark of $736,000,000?

Here's how:

London: 10 nights at the O2
New York: 10 nights at the Garden
LA: 10 nights at Staples Center

30 shows x 20,000 tickets sold for each show = 600,000 tickets sold.

600,000 tickets x an average ticket price of $1,250.00 = $750,000,000.

If they only play 18 shows, the average ticket price needed to equal U2's record would have to be $2,044.44. But what if they did 18 shows this year and 18 shows next year, and it was all still considered to be part of the same tour? That cuts the "magic number" in half, to a not-too-farfethced $1,022.22.

Sounds like a diabolical plan if you ask me.
