Mick Jagger back in UK top 10 singles chart for 1st time in over 30 years

Mick has hit the UK top 10 singles chart, appearing on Will.I.Am' single (T.H.E.) Hardest Ever. It's hist first top 10 appearance since Start Me Up.

Here's the story from the UK's Daily Telegraph.

Sir Mick Jagger flew into the top 10 in the singles chart for the first time in more than a quarter of a century.

The Rolling Stones singer features on the new Will.I.Am single, T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever), which entered the charts at number three, according to the Official Charts Company (OCC).

The album chart was also graced with musical royalty, as Sir Paul McCartney's Kisses on the Bottom came straight in at number three. It is his 16th solo album and his first since 2007's Memory Almost Full.

Earlier this week, Sir Mick said he was delighted with the success of the new song he features in.

The 68-year-old last achieved a top 10 hit with the Stones in 1981 with Start Me Up, and his most recent appearance in his own right was in 1985 when he duetted with David Bowie on Dancing In The Street.
He is guest vocalist on Black Eyed Peas star Will.I.Am's single, along with Jennifer Lopez.

He told TheOfficialCharts.com: ''We had a great time recording the track and I'm glad that UK music lovers are liking it.''

His most recent entry in the singles chart with his group SuperHeavy - which includes Joss Stone and Dave Stewart - peaked at number 136, and he was recently immortalised in last year's chart-topping Maroon 5 hit Moves Like Jagger.

Superheavy peaked at 24 in the UK chart.

First time in the top ten since 1981 then it says 85. Poor quality journalism.

Misleading at best. He's got nothing to do with it except for yelling through a microphone. He hasn't had anything as a solo artist. This will simply be remembered as riding the coat tails of someone that has zero talent with this trendy "music". You go Mick, viva la suckage.

At last he seems to have his ear screwed on right to current trends. Stay with it and the top ten hits will continue to hit the charts.

Imagine, they still earn money on "Anybody seen my baby". One of the worst steals in rock history. I read in "Life" that it was Keith's children who told him it was theft from K.D Lang (Constant Craving).

Can't wait to hear what his part on the new Lady Gaga/Nikki Minaj single will sound like. I hear they're going to bring in Dave Grohl on guitar so Mick can work with a real Rock & Roll guitar player.

Peace,
Mr DJA

You think Keith was really pleased with Mick for that one? The video doesn't make it out to be a big deal - but I bet it was a HUGE deal "behind closed doors".

And to paraphrase Mick: "Anobody Seen My Baby" was really a Honda version of a Ferrari song (Constant craving). Even her video was better.

First time in the top ten since 1981 then it says 85. Poor quality journalism.

85 would have been Dancing in the Street with Bowie...so technically correct.

Hardly a 'steal'...she was credited on the album. Sometimes 'shit happens'. I would have been really pissed if it was a great song.

Well Mick and Keith have worked with the Spice Girls and S Club 7 in the past.

The article itself doesn't say "since 1981", that was you.
The article itself doesn't say "for 1st time since 1981", that was Silver Dagger, the one who started this thread.
The article DID say "for the first time in more than a quarter of a century", which is correct. Time to get another coffee, or something...

Stones 1981 / alone 1985 - makes a difference.

This must be the worst thing that any member of the band has recorded.

We're talking an album here rather than a single for SuperHeavy. All the Stones studio albums have went into the top ten of the albums chart and the Exile reissue was number one 20 or so months ago.

On the surface you are correct, however, there is "method to his madness". He is exposing himself to a whole new audience. His Grammy performance was a knockout among young Afican Americans. They love him. My 11 year old niece even knows who he is today. This can only work in the Stones favor once they hit the road again.

As previously discussed, the music charts can be somewhat manipulated these days,
at least for the first week or two, as they may have been for the first week of
T.H.E in the USA, since it somehow debuted at #36 without radio play or very
much in the way of sales at itunes or amazon...

But in the UK the thing is selling consistently in the top 10 at UK itunes.
I don't know how to check if its getting radio play there too, but if it is,
that means its a legit hit, which would be quite nice for Sir Mick.

In other news that does not quite yet deserve a thread of its own, Perez Hilton
is reporting that Rihanna's "shocking" surprise collaborator for her new
single "birthday cake" is NOT chris brown after all, this after an orgy of
media condemnation of Rih for daring to include chris. Apparently, in the
media's eyes, there is no greater sin these days than forgiving someone their
trespasses...

fyi, "birthday cake" is about cunnilingus, a sexual act that some women feel is
not given adequate publicity. so who her collaborator might be is of course
a matter of global import. with chris apparently out of the running, speculation
has once again turned to mick jagger among others...

my feelings: if "birthday cake" is released monday on Rih's birthday then no
way is it Mick. probably katy perry. mick would not allow the release right
before his "boogie with bama" show. but if it is held back til after tuesday,
then i think we might just get a new single with mick.

here's the one-minute version of "birthday cake" that was included on her album:

ya gotta give will.i.am credit for continuing to flog T.H.E. in the US
even though it never really broke through into hitsville. On Feb. 25 as
part of the NBA’s “All-Star Saturday Night,” will.i.am will perform his single
“The Hardest Ever” right before the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest...

I've seen him perform the song twice "live" now and both times the general buzz
and my personal reaction were both "pretty bad". The last time Will did it
with an Ipad duct-taped to his face, so although it was him live dancing,
his singing face was pre-recorded...

Let's hope he comes up with a slightly better idea this time.

Ri can bring the birthday cake and Kelis can bring her milkshake.

What about "Dancing In The Street" with Bowie. They hit the No.1 position in 1985
