Yeah, that is pretty pathetic they did that. It is so obvious. And so unnecessary.

Well what about next year? Seams no matter who is onstage people hate.

What about a dog show? Yeah that'll teach them.

its not really a big deal (they did the same thing last tour with the b-stage mini set). It just meant the stage wasnt cluttered with additional musicians and the visual impact was improved as a result. The performance was still 100% live. The Superbowl is just a glorified cabaret - not an exercise in musical authenticity.

Earlier in this thread, someone else also said they didn't like M.I.A., and they were then accused of racist overtones.

Its all about being entertained. She did just that.

Watching pretend singing is not entertaining to real music lovers. But for those that don't care, I don't understand.

You answered your own question - Madonna in her 2012 guise is for people who are undiscerning about music. She is decades past her use-by date as far as creativity goes.

I find this highly amusing especially since I didn't see the half-time show and only caught the last 4 minutes of the game.

I accused that particular person of racism because they made a racist remark concerning M.I.A. I didn't say someone was racist because they don't like M.I.A. The person I was referencing as racist was so ignorant they didn't even realize M.I.A. is not black, she's Sri Lankan.

Well you said all you can when you said "once you get past the Foo Fighters"...another corporate rock group making safe sounds. But I struggle to understand the appeal of MIA for someone who says they like rock? Really?
Fair enough, she had some tough knocks during the war in SL. But that doesn't make her music any better. Funny though that you didn't have an original retort other than reusing my words and injecting The Black Keys, quite ironic.
Jack White is great, and I look forward to hearing what he comes up with on his new album. And there are a lot of other udnerappreciated groups out there making some vital and fun rock and roll. With a lot more depth and substance than MIA psuedo R and B/rap.

since when were the foo fighters a corporate rock band? their first album was pretty much a demo and no record label wanted them. its only funny now that so many bands try to sound like the foo fighters and get signed like that when in fact no label wanted the foo's at first because no one sounded like that

I admire any rock band that doesn't bury their sound with synthisizers (doesn't mean I like them, but I respect them.) Music is personal taste.

As for the Foos, all I know is that Wasting Light it is one of the very few releases the past few years that I have listened to in its entirety at least 50 times, and I am no where near tired of it. I guess Social Distotion and Pearl Jam are also corporate rock?

Curiously, no show in Detroit, where she is supposedly from. It's not the first, or even the second Madonna tour that's bypassed her "hometown".

I never got the whole Madonna craze. I think she is one of those artists that was in the right place at the right time as opposed to being a whirlwind of talent. I don't even think she sings very well. When you hear the voice of Karen Carpenter or Chrissie Hynde it makes Madonna sound like an early exiter on American Idol.

"Lyin' awake in a cold, cold sweat. Am I overdrawn, am I going in debt?
It gets worse, the older that you get. No escape from the state of confusion I'm in.

I remember seeing her first video for Lucky Star and I thought she would be a flash in the pan. I found Cindi Lauper to be much more talented, with more emotional depth. I still feel that way, but I've enjoyed a song or two of Madonna's, but the only one I've kept is 'Live To Tell'.

I know where you're coming from. But it's not all about the voice - to continue the TV show theme she has what none of the winners of the actual show ever had - the X Factor. Focus, determination, hard work and never being shy about utilising the talents of others have all played a part in her staying power. And she's not without talent - there was widespread agreement that she did very well in Evita for example.
