Havel was an adorable man, he is a loss for the Czech Republic and for Europe. I remember a great essay he published in a German Paper a few months ago, I will read it again.

It is not usual that the passing of a statesman is Stones-related, but now it is. Havel belong to the generation of politicians - even though he was more an intellectual than a politician by definition - who were key players in the biggest political changes of climate in Europe since the world War Two. "Tanks Roll Out, The Stones Roll In". Indeed.

RIP

Frank Zappa was also some kind of advisor/mentor for Vaclav.

Havel was a Stones fan to the end. He was at the Beacon Theatre for the one of the "Shine A Light" shows in 2006. I remember Bill Clinton thanking him from the stage when he gave his opening speech on the first night.

One of the few recent leaders we can admire without reservation.

A man of courage and fearlessness. Also, the first rock & roll president.

Will some of the principals go to the state funeral?
Mick even had in 1995 a chat with Havel on the tarmac of an airport holding up air traffic. (see NYT of today)

You took the words right out of my mouth!

So now I'll do some wishful thinking:

If only all political leaders were like him ...

PS:

This summer we went to the Roger Waters concert "The Wall" in Budapest - fantastic with people from all over Eastern Europe. My wife who is Hungarian told me : Look at these Romanians - and these are speaking Polish and here these guys must be Czech and so on.

It was so peaceful, full of joy and good spirits - and it was the cleanest place I've been to in Budapest ...

Rock & Roll might not bring peace on Earth - but it sure helps!

Sad news. The literate/author president R.I.P.

From 5 kilometers to the Czech border in Germany, I've been able to watch how the neighboring country has changed under his reign and it was all a change for the better. Thank you Mr Havel.

Incredible, Ronnie asks in the video if the restaurant he made reservations for that night is a good choise. You see Keith thinking: "RONNIE SHUT UP!" Great scene!
