Do You Go See The Stones for the Performance or Setlist?
Posted by: BamaStone ()

I'm speaking realistically here, I Love'em, was lucky enough to see them twice on the Zip Code Tour, hope they are blessed with health and make it back to our shores again to see. My question now is, do you go for the performance or the setlist? For me, it would be the performance, because face it, the setlist is going to be pretty much vanilla.

Interesting question. The perfect answer would be both in my opinion. But these days I'm mostly going to just see them, usually the performance is great but I gave up on the setlist.

I go to see the Stones. The setlist is what it is and will always be.

The only reason why I go to Stones shows is to see all the young beautiful people there, and of course to see many friends. It might just as well be Black Sabbath, but I am not totally paranoid.

I think most people go just to be in the presence of living legends. It's a bucket list thing.

Yes, they're still capable of playing awesome rock'n'roll, and yes, sometimes they pull out a gem that hasn't been heard in decades, or ever, but mostly, people want to be in their presence and see them interacting and playing, even if they're not hitting the heights they once did.

I think there is an energy level at a Stones concert that is unreachable by most other bands.
Due in part to both the performance and the set list.
There is no better way to start a concert than Jumping Jack Flash!

experience> performance> set list

In general I love traveling to see live music. Live music has brought me to some amazing places, both inside the U.S. and beyond

im going to see them in warsaw even though im scottish and would be less effort to see them in edinburgh basically because i wanted to go back to warsaw anyway and think combining the 2 would be a great experience, also to see them in front of a polish crowd where many might be seeing them for the first time would make it a more exciting experience.

i dont expect anything really great from the band in terms of setlist or the ability to perform the way they did in the 60,s and 70,s. anything out of the ordinary would be a bonus but i would just be glad to see them again and probably for the last time.

hope also to meet up with people from this site in warsaw for pre concert drinks and meal, plan to spend 4 nights in warsaw, so plenty sightseeing, photography, bars, cuisine, and also 2 world cup games on while im over there.

just need to save up the money now.

I go so that I can take selfies with my iPhone 10 and post them to my social media accounts with the appropriate hashtags and prove to the world that I am special. And pretty.

I love the Rolling Stones for many many years, so I go to see them for the Stones, their performance, and the songs. I have to admit though, I would hear some change in the setlist, some songs off the beaten track, not just one song vote out of three, but some real surprises, like "The Hand of Fate", "the Spider and the Fly", "Ventilator Blues" or "the Salt of the Earth" or whatever, the back catalogue is huge ....

My coat is torn and frayed, it's seen much better days, but as long as the guitar plays ....

For the live performance and to share that experience with my son, partner and thousands of fellow Rolling Stones fans.

Hands down: the live performance of some of the greatest R&R music ever by the originals. Not too much of that left any more. Glad my daughter grew to like them too.

The staging is and always has been amazing. I commented a few years ago about the 1989 tour using over one million watts of power (I knew a stagehand), and the highest until that time was 600,000 by The Who.

Both. I mean, we can predict most of the songs, but we can always hope for something different. Under My Thumb and Dancing With Mr. D were not very expected last year.

Nah... Not for the performance (they are 75 years old) ... and not for the setlist (predictable).

I think I'm going for the same reason I went to see them the 9 times before. They were making music and doing shows when I was born and I'm 54 years old. I know it will end some day and I know I'll be missing seeing them on stage. Can't find a better reason.

Humour and (second) language is a strange mix. It doesn't always come across that well. Believe me...

Maybe you should have the same expectations going to a Stones gig as you would have seeing McEnroe and Borg playing on the oldies tour?

No,
i go because i am addicted to the Stones. Have been since 1976. They make me feel so good, and last years (4)gigs were great to me. I wanna see them, be near them and experience a great Rock n roll gig. They are not as good, like someone posted, , like 30 0r 40, 50 years ago.
Does not matter. Its great to enjoy the live music and meet other Stones fans.
Jeroen
