Mathijs, do you know what Keith was doing on YCAGWYW in 81? I think for a while he was playing a Telecaster. In pics from that tour I alwasy see him playing without a capo. Was he doing YCAGWYW in different key?

He was playing with a capo, but he was not using the 67' tele. He was using a mid,to early, 70's tele which sounded incredible,i have'nt seen it since, those mid 70's are monsters! That is the question,Mathijs what Tele is that ,that blond one, from 81?

Yes, he used a capo for YCAGWYW, one see it easily in the DVDs from that tour.
Keith didn't use a white/blonde Telecaster every time they did that song.
For instance the pics Sici posted from Turin 82, which has to be from YCAGWYW.

>> The 67 tele? <<

i reckon he means the sunburst Tele that Keith uses now for YCAGWYW and Tumbling Dice.

- courtesy of Toru A, i think (don't know who took it, sorry!)

as for the mysterious early-to-mid-70s blond ... hm, does he mean the Newman-Jones Tele?

if that's the one, you can read a bit about it in this thread: [iorr.org]
in the article in the first post, Newman-Jones says: "One six-string [I made for Keith]
is a copy of a Fender Telecaster with Fender Telecaster electronics. I just made it because
I had a beautiful piece of mahogany and a beautiful Fender rosewood neck that just seemed to want to be together."

There's no mystery, here. The tele i'm talking about is the one in the Hampton show? I think that is an early to mid 70's , That's no newman-jones.

okay: there's no mystery - it just wasn't clear which one it is that you're not sure of the identity of.
the one he's got for YCAGWYW at Hampton looks a lot like this one:

[peering hard:] is that the same one between Micawber and the pale blond with the naked pickups?

You probably mean this Tele:

Roger Giffin was the Stones' guitar technician for the Stones in '81/'82, as well as a very well respected guitar builder for the likes of Clapton, Pete Townsend, Mark Knopfler, Eddie van Halen and more.

Roger Giffin was affiliated with the Schector company, and made various Telecasters for pete Townsend. Apperently keith liked a white Schecter made Telecaster so much that he used it on the '81 tour, mainly for YCAGWYW, but also at least on one occasion for Let's Spend the Night Together.

Yes, he used it on Let's Spend. Keith's was looking for a different sound for let's Spend, something darker. He started it on the TV Junior, then the Schecter tele in the middle position, then to the 72 Custom Tele, and finally settled for the Rosewood Tele.
