Fats Domino dead: Rock and roll legend dies aged 89

Don’t know his entire oeuvre. But a brilliant greatest hits collection.

To quote his own songs: Ain't That A Shame.

Great musicians and performer. Loved McCartney's cover of this:

R.I.P., Mister Domino. You made some great music. Your version of Blueberry Hill is the first r&b song I ever heard in my childhood years. My family owned a bar then and I'd fall asleep at night hearing the thump/vocals of Blueberry Hill coming up through the floor into the family living quarters above the bar. When I got older the New Orleans sound is one I came to love. I owe that to you, sir. Thanks.

R.I.P.
I love his "The Fat Man", and a number of others too ("Kansas City", "There Goes My Heart Again", ...)
The origins of rock n roll but also of ska.

Also my favourite, outside the blues, among, broadly speaking, rock-oriented music from the '50s.

Thanks for the memories Fats...

When I was very young, my fat uncle used to play Fat's albums all the time.
Whenever I hear this tune, I think of my dear old uncle singing and dancing around the room with a beer in his hand.

Fats Domino - I'm Walkin'

RIP Fats Domino.

RIP The Fat Man.

Never really considered the Evs as rock'n'roll, more like balladeers, although they did some great truly rock'n'roll.

For me the legendary rock'n'rollers were Chuck, Little Richard, Elvis, Jerry Lee, Buddy and Fats.

He's far behind imo. Outside of the US the name "Don Everly" hardly rings a bell while "Chuck" "Bo" "Jerry Lee" are legendary.

RIP Antoine! thumbs up

A Fats song (Tell me that you Love Me) was part of the Stones very first set list.

THE SET LIST
Kansas City – Wilbert Harrison
Honey What’s Wrong – Billy Fury
Confessin’ The Blues – Chuck Berry
Bright Lights, Big City – Jimmy Reed
Dust My Blues – Elmore James
Down The Road Apiece – Chuck Berry
I Want To Love You – Charles Smith
I’m A Hoochie Coochie Man – Muddy Waters
Ride ‘Em On Down – Robert Johnson
Back In The USA – Chuck Berry
I Feel A Kind Of Lonesome – Jimmy Reed
Blues Before Sunrise – Elmore James
Big Boss Man – Jimmy Reed
Don’t Stay Out All Night – Billy Boy Arnold
Tell Me That You Love Me – Fats Domino
Happy Home – Elmore James

Not their style, but would fit in nicely with tonights blues numbers..

The Beatles vocals on some of their early songs "Please Please Me" sounds very much like the Everly Brothers. I'm not sure if we would have even had the same Beatles without the Everlies, the sound is so similar.

And one can research further on what the Beatles thought of the Everly Brothers, good enough for me.

At amazon, I had seen the total works of Fats Domino before. I wonder if his work in total is good because it is a lot of music.

Most of us know of course, the big hits, Blueberry Hill, Ain't that a shame, I'm gonna be a wheel, Walkin' to New Orleans, I'm walking and so on.

It was a lot of music in that boxset.

I had the privilege of running the monitor mix for one of his shows back in 1988. Due to the stage layout, I probably wasn't more than 20 feet from his piano bench. What a joy it was to be able to sit so close and listen to and watch him play. He was truly a master.

RIP Fats

Peace,
Mr DJA

Fats never made a bad song. He sang all styles of music and it’s all good. The Springsteen fan and rock critic Dave Marsh said today he listened to most of Fats music including the 8 disc Bear Family set and there was only one song that he didn’t like. He said he couldn’t say the same about Elvis or Springsteen. I recommend the Ace records Fats Domino Singles. The series covers 5 cds of the Imperial years. The Bear Family set is good but may be due for a remastering.
