Matt is listed on the Doom and Gloom 1 song EP
don't recall his title, something like "help for the demo version"
I think he's also in charge of the rehersal for the choir in each city

I just remember that god awful note he hit on You Can't Always Get What You Want on the 1989 pay per view - it was really bad!

Amazing that Mick enthusiastically embraced a suggestion for cutting costs!

confused smiley

That would be "Pre-production" (see below), like on Mick's "40 Licks" tracks, which is no surprise since Mick has been recording most (all ?) his demos with Matt Clifford since 1992.

i think Matt has no added value. obviously he is a friend of Mick Jagger. He does not get any colour on the Stones sound imo.

Think he is glad to have some income to get from his friend.

for the rest forgettable.

I think Matt also turns up on Goddess In The DoorWay; for some unknown reason, he wasn't on Wandering Spirit.

He was, he played the harpsichord on "Angel in my Heart" at least.

But something did happen for WS because I remember flipping through "Vanity Fair" in early 92 with Mick on the cover and he was interviewed during studio sessions with Matt Clifford, dubbed his "musical aide de camp" in the article, for "Don't Tear Me Up". It seems the results of these first sessions for WS were not to the liking of Ahmet Ertegun (according to French journalist Philippe Manoeuvre's review of WS) and he told Jagger to rework it. That's possibly when he went to Rubin and ditched the previous sessions with Matt Clifford.

There might have been some tense moments at that time with Clifford, hence Chuck's revelation in his book that Mick was looking for another keyboard player to replace him when they regrouped for VL...
