One of my guiltiest pleasures is "Just Dropped in to See What Condition My Condition Was In" by Kenny Rogers. I couldn't believe this was Kenny Rogers, but I love this song...especially the final chord of the song.

"Slip Inside This House" features INCREDIBLE lyrics:

To me, there isn't anything that is better than this track. Complete, trippy perfection! thumbs up

Paul Revere and the Raiders actually had a medium sized hit single with this pop psychedelia.

Great song. That whole album, "Revolution" is first-rate.

I especially like "I Hear A Voice."

This song, one of the few sung by Paul, is one you never hear, but probably rates as one of the most sexist songs of the rock era:

One of my faves too. I Hear A Voice is incredible.

You got it. If you're 'setting off with soft explosion' then this one works every time. Love the Primal Scream version too.

Since I love weird sounds and arrangements I alsp love psychedelic rock. The big thing with it for me is the open minded experiments musically. It's pretentious in a way but also honest and fun.

For me my most psychedelic moment is actually the Cures album "The top": Since I don't do drugs (except cigarettes and alcohol) I listened to that record when I had a 40 degree fever and hallucinations. That was really really weird. I asked my (then) girlfriend to play it and she did. It was so far out...

And listening to it without fever is quite a trip too.

I suggest that it started with Dylan (but you could say that about a lot of things). Eventually it evolved with sound, but Dylan laid the lyrical groundwork very early in his career. A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall is a nightmarish trip that seems to originate in the part of the brain dreams come from and that song goes back to 1963. How about Mr. Tambourine Man in '65? There is nothing wrong with music that assaults the senses and attempts to alter reality, but there is a very fine line between what works (and endures) and what doesn't.

It's hard to believe that this psychedelic masterpiece has an alternate equal.

It's also hard to believe this was the first song they recorded for Revolver. In fact, it was recorded before the Paperback Writer/Rain single.

If there's 20 seconds of music that captures the 1960s, it's the last 20 seconds of this song. #1 single in the USA, November 25, 1967. Sha la la ....

What is the band that was commercial, but also would stack up these beautiful harmonies? They had a few hits; one went something like: "And Cindy (?) has duh-duh eyes, and ta dah da purple skies(?), all up the side..etc". Never knew what they are saying just very pretty

I remember listening to this after being spiked with LSD while still at school. I went home and listened to In Search Of The Lost Chord and it sounded great. Never quite sounded the same again after that though.

Great story! Yes, back in the day I went searching for the lost chord as well. Of course it never sounded as incredibly fantastic as it did then but even today I still really like it.

Great thread BTW

There are hundreds of 60s psych songs
And this is my favorite.

Have fun discovering all theses nuggets.

Sure, it's more pop than heavy, but I heard this on the car stereo yesterday and had to wait until it was done. Very subversive to hear on AM radio, "I've taken everything in sight, I take off the strings of my kite.........." What a bass line.

This makes it into my top 5 psych singles of all time. Up there with the 13th Floor Elevators.
