AKARTA, Indonesia -- Thousands of rock fans angered by the high price of tickets went on a rampage outside a Jakarta stadium during a concert by British rock star Mick Jagger, damaging more than 100 cars and leaving scores of people injured.
Police said about 70,000 people showed up for the Sunday concert by the Rolling Stones member, but thousands of fans could not afford the $14.50 price for a ticket and ended up battling police and troops outside the giant Senayan Stadium.
About 30 security officers were injured in the riot, police said. A doctor with a city ambulance service said he treated scores of fans following the two-hour concert by Jagger.
The rioters smashed cars with bricks and rocks and shattered several glass doors and windows around the stadium, leaving stairways and some parts of the stands spattered with blood.
Officials said more than 100 cars were damaged, including 60 that were destroyed. Two motorcycles were set on fire.
The English-language Jakarta Post quoted a spokesman for concert promoter Bill Graham as describing the riot as an 'uncomfortable situation.'
