Bands that nobody hardly have heard of use to insist that they are very "big in Japan".

Bill Haley, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, P.J. Proby, The Walker Brothers... all were far bigger in the UK than in their homeland.

One of my favourite performers, Anastasia, is much more popular here in Europe than in her native USA.

Many of them old "Krautrock" bands (who'd strongly prefer not to be labelled that way) like Tangerine Dream, Neu!, Faust etc.

The Stooges are far bigger in Europe than in the States and thus do much more touring there. They've played a lot of European festivals, but less than 10 US shows since James Williamson came back in 2009.

Jimi Hendrix conquered England before he conquered America.

In exchange (so to speak) for Barclay James Harvest.

Not quite sure whether that was a good deal though...

Ha, good choice!
No, I don't think it was a good deal by any means ;-)
Still, BJH were extremely popular in Germany. They even rocked the Berlin Reichstag with a specially staged open air festival in the old days before the wall came down.

I'm pretty sure that The Hives is a bigger thing in US than in Sweden...or is it my bad taste in music?

One gentleman Vince Taylor was more famous in France than in his native England.

Nobody remembers him anyway nowadays, so maybe "famous" is wrong.

Colonial, if what you meant to say was "Bands that are more famous", it's "That're", not "That'll". Please learn to use apostrophes correctly. Maybe you shouldn't use them at all. That'll be better for everyone, don't you think?

Me! 10 fans spread out over the globe, only 7 stateside (and that's counting my mom).

Many US jazz artists, and the Pixies (Boston) do/did far better than in Europe than the US. A lot of those jazz cats moved to France/UK/etc because of it.

Rockin' Ronnie Hawkins.
Born in Arkansas, U.S.

Found much more success in Canada and is still here.
When he decided to move permanently to Canada in 1964 American backing band said 'no thanks' except for his drummer - Levon Helm. Their vacancies were eventually filled by Canadians Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel and Garth Hudson.

You know the rest.
