Apart from a deep connection to the music, how would you characterize your obsession / devotion to this band? What does it mean to you?

Whenever I'm confronted with a problem, I ask "What would Keith do?"

It meant it was easy for me to narrow down the choice of my Dog's name to Keith, Mick, or Charlie.

They are one of the bands I truly love. My fandom for them peaked in the mid-nineties.

I think there's a whole outlook / way-of-being-in-the-world thing going on

The Beatles and stones are my gurus

Can't help walking in Their path
They came before me.

Jesus is alright too.

Stones makes the world go round, and they are there to serve us with their amazing joy. No matter what happens, we always got the music and their smiles.

And Keith will outlive us all, including the cockroaches after the biggest bang.

Hadn't it been for Stones, God, Oasis, Beady Eye, Pretty Green and The Who, I would've given up a long time ago.

A way of life when I was younger and single. Now just a major obsession.

it's entertainment, fun, and diversion (definitely not a philosophy or way of life for me!)

None.

They're a "band" (they were anyway), not the armed forces.

The Beatles, The Dead, Elvis, U2 & Lady Gaga are religions. Dylan & Springsteen are prophets.

The Stones are a cult.

Peace,
Mr DJA

A cult indeed. I drank the Kool-Aid a long time ago - cherry red.

It's just music, and I barely listen to them these days. I'm not really interested in emulating their "way of life" or "philosophy" (is there such thing?).

I'm with ya Send-It-To-Me... Rather be a member of this cult than many of the currently approved and sanctioned religions.

Peace
Mr DJA

The second disc of Hot Rocks is a lot more important than any holy books.

The Stones are certainly no religion, no philosophy to me but I admit they could have been a way of life to my generation. As I am rather a conservative in my way of life, they certainly represented that antidote essential to an equilibrium. But as music is part of my life, they are part of my life.

Re: Besides the music, are Stones a religion, philosophy, way of life?

Being now in my fourties life has put me too much challenges but in the past and for more years than advisable they played an excessive role in my life. I carefully listened several times at least a record everyday (with no exceptions) for several years in my teen years and early tweenties. And Stones became my only musical interest. Any other music I have heard was only becouse of its relation to Stones (Blues, Berry and so on). My family thought I had some kind of problem...winking smiley
