Dave and Joss gave a 6 minute interview on German TV and the subject of
SuperHeavy did not even come up.

Thanks and praises Jah, because this SuperHeavy letdown has been completely
buffered by Damian Marley releasing a great new single. Nothing could be more
welcome at this moment, except of course Damian Marley releasing a new album.
No word on that yet.

Enjoy:

Here's that Joss and Dave interview. Probably not worth 8 minutes of your time,
except for the part where Dave says him and Joss are the real deal, unlike most
music artists these days. He and Joss can come up with a new arrangement of
a song and play it live in a matter of hours, if not minutes. And that's what
we'll miss most about SuperHeavy, that it was a real band and not an act...

Obviously Damian's new single is hardcore hip-hop and so may not be your
cup of tea. On the flip side though, Damian can also do the very sweet
Bob-Marley-thing...

Jah told you, in his own words
And I'll see you through
To guide you through this cold world
And I'll see you through

AR Rahman's Rockstar music tops international charts

Post Slumdog Millionaire and Satyameva Jayate, the Mozart of Madras AR Rahman
has struck gold again with his new album for Imtiaz Ali’s new film starring
Ranbir Kapoor.

Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar grew into a mammoth project the moment AR Rahman’s name
was associated with it – this was probably one of the best things to happen to
the film. The genre of rock music used in the OST is not very popular in India,
but Rahman’s magic has worked big time, not only here, but the world over.
The album is now number one on the US World Charts and number two in UK Charts.
This is a huge feat for a Bollywood film and the credit goes to Rahman, who has
composed 14 spectacular songs. But the story goes that thanks to his busy
schedule Rahman almost said no to the director. When Imtiaz approached Rahman,
the maestro instantly said, “Oh my God, I have no time! There is no way I can do
this, but I will do it. I want to do it.” At that time Rahman was in the thick
of a hundred commitments – recording in LA, performing at concerts, jamming with
SuperHeavy, writing for Hollywood, Bollywood and Tamil movies. But he agreed…and
did his superlative best. Evidently Rahman’s instinctive reaction about the
movie was right, as his work is now topping the charts not only in US and UK,
but also in other parts of the world, including France, Germany and Australia.
We are excitedly waiting to watch the film this November.

I actually could care less what my friends think of this album...I think it's excellent.

Our 16 year-old nephew is one of those classic rock kids, so the RastaSufi
aspects of the album are a bit of a puzzle for him. But he's being helped out
by his 14 year-old girlfriend. She's a freak of nature who at 14 was already
into Rasta and Bob Marley and Damian Marley and Joss Stone and the Stones even
before we turned her on to SuperHeavy back in July. What a kid!

From dailybhaskar dot com:

The Mozart of Madras, AR Rahman has struck magic once again with the songs from
his latest musical masterpiece Rockstar and the music has already become a
colossal rage with the audience!

With the Oscar winning AR Rahman at the helm, the music of the highly
anticipated film, specially the song ‘Saadda Haq’ (Its our right!) has stirred
up a nationwide frenzy; with some even calling it the ‘anthem of the youth’.

Across all media, be it TV channels, radio, Blackberry statuses, Facebook,
Twitter or other social media platforms, the song has struck the right chord
with fans and listeners generating a positive word of mouth, discussing it
online, keeping it as their statuses and even incorporating the words “Saadda
Haq” as part of their daily lingo!

(You can watch "Saadda Haq" from the film at the following link. Its like
time tripping, watching another culture being introduced to head-banging music...)

Def like this next track "jo bhi main" from Rockstar more. Sounds more organically
Indian, less synthetic. The official video is already off to the races on youtube:

Broadway musical music causes us nausea and headache. But now that Dave Stewart
is doing the music...

Absolutely nothing has changed. Sickly sweet garbage, with a few interesting visuals...

I discussed it with two friends last night. Their point, which I shared, is that there are no songs on the album, just big riddim based dance-hall workouts. Fine for a loud bar or party but otherwise insubstantial.

Well, that certainly describes the first song, so if you're not actually going to listen to the whole album...

Actually, we agreed that "crap" describes the whole album. "Cringe-worthy and "an embarrassment" were bandied about as well.

My wife absolutely hates the Stones. But when I first played the Superheavy album she asked who that is and it was the first time she listened to a whole album of anything Stones related.

I brought her to see the Stones in 1998 and she slept through half of the show, in first row, sitting against the barriers! But don't worry, still happily married for 9 years now.

Have been surprised by the amount of people we've shown the MW video to who simply
cannot get past the pink suit. Not all negative, but mostly. They think the suit
is ridiculous, so they don't give the song a chance. Others fixate on the pink suit
as a sort of positive, the way it emphasizes the 68 year-old's astonishing
physicality, but again, at the expense of hearing the song, or at least the music.

So amongst all our friends, we are in the definite minority in both enjoying the
pink suit and not finding it a complete distraction.

pink suits tend to have the effect. i'd say in prolly 95% of the time i've worn one, i wasn't given a chance, either.

As young hoodlums in NJ, running with the Italians, tough guys wore pink. Not
pink suits, but pink shirts were a fashion, burgandy pants, and black cabretta
leather jackets.

Later on, as clean midwestern punks in Mpls, pink shirts were also okay, with
retro skinny lapel suits from the thrift store. During this period, surely a
pink suit would have been okay too, if there was any such thing.

So don't think we have worn pink since about 1980. But still occasionally
see young hipsters doing the pink shirt with black leather jacket thing.

Just checked my closet. I do have a dark pink (rose?) silk shirt by Hugo Boss
that I do wear occassionally on a nice summer evening. The pink is just dark
enough to not cause comment.

back in the 80's - i would have my office staff guys wear pink shirts with a black tie on certain days...i called them "good and plenty days."

What you didn't say though, is that in the 5% of the time you were give no trouble, you were actually wearing clothing.

I hope you were at least at the beach the other 95% of the time!

Yeah I agree, that was great that VL costume.......I was thinking the other day wasn't VL tour the last time Mick dressed in theatrically....we all know about his 70's stuff, satin etc...(except '78 of course), then the American Football outfits in '81/'82, then the Dandy 3/4 length dress coat for Steel Wheels etc and the Voodoo costume in '94 but since then a coloured satin shirt has been the extent of his dressing up..........
However.....
Re. the pink suit...I think he does like pink...I heard he painted his house in Cheyne Walk (years ago) pink..................
