Ahh nice. So Keith used a Les Paul Jr on Tumblin Dice. Mathijs is wrong again.

Do you know the difference between a LP JR and a Tele? He doesn't use a Jr on Tumblin Dice live.

No way a LP Junior was used for TD. There weren't even Juniors around with the Stones in 1970 - 1971. There also seems to be a misunderstanding from Waddy, and then from the interviewer, about Keith's Junior called 'Dice' and 'the junior' used for recording TD.

Btw, on one show during the 1972 tour he used a Dan Armstrong for TD, and in 1973 he used the Newman Jones on several shows for TD.

I have seen Keith use the sunburst CBS era Fender Tele for tumbling Dice a whole bunch of times .

"Mathijs is wrong again" is a bit much. He is the source of much good information and only once in 20 years here have I wanted to knee him in the groin. In all seriousness, he doesn't speak with infallibility, he does what all of us do about our passions, he speaks to the best of his knowledge.

Since Keith stated "I make them all sound the same", who gives a @#$%& anyway.

Waddy just mistook "Dice" for the guitar used on TD.

Keith did not use a LP junior before the 1973 Nicaraguan Benefit show. He was introduced to them by Newman Jones during the Kingston Jamaica 1972 sessions. He got Dice in 1978 or 1979, and it was named Dice due to two decals of dice below the volume knob.

A discussion of whether Sugar Blue played harp on "Black Limousine." You were correct in stating it is Jagger and I'll go to my grave resenting you for realizing it before me. Apart from that you're a swell guy.

Speaking of Waddy, gotta say he's one of my favorite guitarists along with Keith, Taylor, Woody, Page, Clapton, etc. He always had a great signature sound that brought the magic to so many artists hits from way back. I remember thinking when I heard his sound on Linda Ronstadt's Tumbling Dice that it would be cool to hear him jam with Keith. Of course I was thrilled to learn he would be Keith's partner for his solo work. Maybe I was blessed with some sense of premonition. I also remember when I first discovered the Faces, I thought, "That Ron Wood sounds and looks like he belongs in the Stones!" Well, not long after that, Taylor quit and the Stones rolled down 5th Ave to announce their 75 tour blasting Brown Sugar and the new guitarist was...I honestly don't remember if Woody's involvement was officially announced prior to that day. I just know that I heard the broadcast of the 5th Ave performance on the radio with no idea who was playing with Keith. After it was over I was thrilled when one of the announcers said, "And did you see who the new member is?" We know the rest. Funny footnote - When that question was asked, the other announcer replied, "Yes, Billy Preston!" No, that's not who the first guy was talking about!

"Gonna find my way to heaven ..."

I was the other one in that discussion who deserved that knee, if memory serves... winking smiley

Well I can't do that to you. I send you Barbarian-themed Christmas cards every year. You're on the list of people I know outside IORR. It's not like Mathijs who could just be Gaslight posting under another of his identities. Yes, I'm kidding, Mathijs. Well about you anyway, not necessarily Gaslight.

I never 'researched' exactly what Waddy does. I love his playing; it's always been around. And then of course when his involvement with Keith and Stones grew.
So, while I realized he was the real deal, and a hell of a player, I did not realize how much of a roots player he is; no pedals, clean channels only. He gets it done. It's strange; in the Winos I would have thought there was more pedals going on in his setup.
btw I know John B, the guy doing interview. A hell of a player.
