Doom & Gloom Question
Posted by: sf37 ()
Date: January 31, 2017 21:09

There appears to be two official studio versions of Gloom & Doom out there: there's the radio edit version with the longer intro, and there's the version from GRRR! with the longer bridge.

I do rather enjoy this upbeat tune. My question is, does a studio version exist that melds the best of both worlds (i.e. with both the longer intro AND the longer bridge)? Just curious....

Thanks all! Cheers!

The GRRR version with the full band has some BEAUTIFUL licks by Ronnie that do not make it into the radio version. Just for the heck of it here they are combined... Radio edit on the right...

Doom & Gloom - both versions combined - link

I prefer the guitars in the real band version and the beat in the radio version. Wish they had come to a happy medium but I am glad to have both versions!

BTW: it's quite unusual for single version to be longer than album version.

On a greatest hits album some songs are edited to make space for more songs. Check out Sucking In The 70s among others.

I like Doom and Gloom (the song) A LOT! I liked it from the first time I heard a bad recording somebody made of it from rehearsals back when... I think in France.

My copy of 'Rewind' does not have edited cut songs. The U.S. version of 'Rewind'. Maybe six or seven seconds cut out of the end of the "Tumbling Dice" fade out. That's it. Otherwise, the U.S. 'Rewind' consists of full L.P. album versions.

'Jump Back' / Sucking in the '70's / Forty Licks and GRRR have the edited cut songs.

Usually "Hot Stuff" , "Fool to Cry" , "Miss You" , "Beast of Burden" , "Mixed Emotions" , and "Rock and a Hard Place" are the edited tracks.

She's So Cold is edited (3 seconds) on the UK version. Beast Of Burden is 6 seconds shorter on Rewind UK as well.

The single version (Jeff Bhasker) is available – at least on vinyl.

Interesting, either way I was wrong, i thought there were more significant edits, i guess it was Sucking in the 70s, that I was thinking about...

SUCKING featured single and B-side edits. LP versions would've fit. SUCKING is 42 minutes long. With the LP versions - and just the LOVE YOU LIVE track of Mannish Boy not having anything edited, including no fade out, it would be 50 minutes.

REWIND (US edition) featured LP versions, no edited tracks, and that's 55 minutes.

JUMP BACK has single edits of Mixed Emotions, Fool To Cry, RAAHPlace, (the UK edit of) Miss You and Beast Of Burden.
