He was such a great actor, I always thought he was a pretty short guy until I saw him out of character and realized it was just because he was cringing every time he was around Basil. He was totally classy when he had that stupid phone prank played on him, too. RIP.

Yes; what a class guy. He also did some excellent narration on historical documentaries, and was great in Coronation Street a few years' back as Norris Cole's brother.
