A childhood friend and fellow lifer Stones fan brought me over a mint copy of the Ramparts magazine he had found last week in a used book store, with the fantastic in depth article written by Michael Lydon and his experience of being on tour with the Stones in 1969. I remember this particular issue of Ramparts quite well as it was the first really great article written about the tour. Having seen the Stones for the first time in Chicago in 1969 as a 16 year old it was exciting to read. I still have that excellent full page photo of Keith from that issue framed on my wall from way back in 1970.

The 1969 tour was special to me then and remains so. Those interested should seek out that Lydon article from this issue of Ramparts. A great addition to that article is contained in the well put together book Let It Bleed by the talented photographer Ethan Russell who of course was on that tour as well. An excellent book in my mind, and an essential for all Stones fans.
