In absolute agreement, and every Beck fan will recognize it immediately.

In absolute agreement, and every Beck fan will recognize it immediately.

It was also the prototype for a lot of cover versions by garage bands around 65-67, particularly the Chocolate Watch Band.

Best ever version of a Bob Dylan song:

Best ever version of a Paul Simon song:

Intro of this reminds me of 'Child Of The Moon':

Nice posts! Loved THEM, they really had a sort of unique sound, ahead of their time. Is that a mellotron in Baby Blue...always thought they sounded a little like The Stones when first hearing THEM ....

I doubt it (in 1965?).

This one particularly sounds like The Stones (unfortunately I can't actually see the video as it's blocked here in the UK)...

"Baby Please Don't Go" though I confess I know little of their rep.

Personally, I've long thought Van is a better vocalist than Mick, but Mick edges him out overall as frontman. Besides, an unfair comparison, since Them didn't have staying power. Would have been VERY interesting if it had.

There was an excellent 2-CD compilation released a few years back which pretty much gathered together everything they did, including a handful of alternate versions.

One reason Them didn't have staying power is because there were so many line-up changes, no less than eight in 2 & 1/2 years (with further line-ups after Van left). [en.wikipedia.org]

I knew the sister of the 2 brothers in one of the early line ups of the band. She told me one of her brothers had passed away and they were both ripped off big time by Van Morrisson. She said they became very bitter towards him and I think it even went to court.Loved their music at that time in the '60's.
