RIDE ON THE CABLE CAR IN SAN FRANCISCO IN 1906

105 YEAR OLD FILM CLIP

This film was "lost" for many years. It was the first 35mm film ever that has come to light. It was taken by camera mounted on the front of a cable car as it`s traveling down the street. You feel as if your really there, standing at the front looking down the street, amazing piece of historic
film.
The number of automobiles is staggering for 1906. Absolutely amazing! The
clock tower at the end of Market Street at the Embarcadero wharf is still there. ... How many "street cleaning" people were employed to pick upafter the horses? Talk about going green!

Great historical film!

This film, originally thought to be from 1905 until David Kiehn with the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum figured out exactly when it was shot. From New York trade papers announcing the film showing to the wet streets from
recent heavy rainfall & shadows indicating time of year & actual weather and conditions on historical record, even when the cars were registered (he even knows who owned them and when the plates were issued!).. It was filmed only four days before the Great California Earthquake of April 18th 1906
and shipped by train to NY for processing. Amazing, but true!

No wonder there had to be laws created to regulate driving habits. This is insane. Good thing they couldn't go very fast.

This is a fascinating movie. A camera on the front of a street car 104 years ago. I watched it a couple of times. Look at the hats the ladies were wearing and the long dresses. Some of the cars had the steering wheels on the right side, I wonder when they standardized on the left? Sure was still a lot of horse drawn vehicles in use. Mass transit looked like the
way to get around. Looks like everybody had the right of way.

Perhaps the oldest "home movie" that you will ever see!

Two of my favorite things. Mick Jagger and rusty old MGBs.

The Mercedes to the left was his:

Mercedes 300SEL 6.3 Ex-Mick Jagger Sold - £0

The original owner bought the car in July 1972 from Clover Leaf Cars in Basingstoke.

The car was last serviced by Clover Leaf Cars in 28/08/1974 at 24,864 miles.

The Rolling Stone’s Mick Jagger then took ownership and the records show the car was serviced next at 33,519 miles in Manhattan, USA.

Whilst in the USA it was fitted with a metal electric sunroof and air-con. The air-con has since been removed.

The last record in The Service Book is on 19/11/1985 recording 75,896 miles at Roger Edwardes, Wembley, UK.

The last owner has kept the car since October 1994, and it has been kept inside and under its bespoke Covercraft cover.

A stainless exhaust system was fitted in May 1996.

The vehicle’s file is big and includes the Mercedes Benz original sales literature, 19 old MOT Certificates from April 1975 (28,844 miles) to December 2009 (88,584 miles) and several old tax discs.

The 300SEL was fitted with five new tyres very recently – the tyres are close to 100% and the spare is unused.

Packing, shipping, air freight economically priced and arranged to your door.

Doesn't Mick own a Ferrari?

Yes, and he probably own or owned more than one in his life.
The funny thing is that he also drive very ordinary family cars when he stay in his french castle. Like an old grey Peugeot 505 break (station wagon) or a Renault Espace (a kind of french van). Probably when he wants to be as anonymous as possible.

Keith had this car brought over from the UK when they were rehearsing for the 1975 US Tour in Montauk. Mick had his Mercedes 600SEL 6.9 brought over as well. Someone showed up at the compound in an AMC Pacer. A car that had huge windows and looked kind'a like an egg. Everyone took turns driving it in circles around the driveway. No one seemed interested in my Pinto station wagon.

Mick was Michael Benz on the Tour hotel registry and Keith was Keith Bentley. Charlie was Charlie Ford and Bill was Bill Chevrolet (or vice-versa?).

A map of the remaining 420-mile markers in the U.S.

Vehicles pass a 419.9 milepost just south of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, earlier this month. Idaho joined Colorado in replacing milepost 420 signs with milepost 419.9 designations in an effort to thwart thievery. (Kathy Plonka/Spokesman-Review via AP)

The state of Idaho recently threw in the towel and replaced the sign for mile marker 420 on U.S. Highway 95 with one that reads "419.9" instead. It follows in the footsteps of Washington state and Colorado, which have taken similar steps in recent years, due to thieves stealing the road signs on account of their numeric connection to marijuana culture.

If they weren't before, 420-mile markers are now an endangered species. Few major highways traverse 420 miles or more within the borders of a single state. By my count, the removal and replacement of the two signs in Washington, one sign in Colorado and now one in Idaho means that there may only be 11 420-mile markers left in the United States.

Three of these are located in the state of Texas, not exactly a hotspot of pot culture. The remaining eight are sprinkled across the country, from Wilmington, N.C., to just outside of Gustine, Calif. Here's the complete list, culled mostly from this Google Answers thread. Am I missing any? Let me know.

Interstate 5, California
Interstate 10, Texas
Interstate 20, Texas
Interstate 35, Texas
Interstate 25, New Mexico
Interstate 40, Tennessee
Interstate 40, North Carolina
Interstate 70, Kansas
Interstate 75, Florida
Interstate 80, Nebraska
Interstate 90, Montana
Interstate 70, Colorado (replaced)
U.S. Highway 95, Idaho (replaced)
U.S. Highway 12, Washington (missing)
State Highway 20, Washington (replaced)

Of course, there are a number of other highway signs that have attained notoriety among marijuana smokers over the years. Who could forget the famous Shamokin/Pottsville sign on Interstate 81 in Pennsylvania? Or Wisconsin's Bong Recreation Area? Or the entire town of Weed, Calif.? Not to mention numerous state and county roads in the United States numbered 420.

And now with the advent of legalization in places like Colorado and Washington, a whole new generation of pot-related signage is coming to fruition.

I didn't see any reference in the text that this was Keith's car. But it's the same beautiful body style of the Bentley Continental Keith had at Montauk during the 1975 TOTA rehearsals. Mick's Mercedes 300SEL was there as well. The hotel tour manifests read, Michael Benz, Keith Bentley, Charlie Ford, and Bill Chevrolet.
