I really like Mick's unreleased 1992 blues album. Do any of you know which versions of those songs Mick used as his models/sources? Here are the ones I can identify:

Shake 'em On Down – ?
Talk To Me Baby – Elmore James
Mean Old World – Little Walter
Checkin' Up On My Baby – Sonny Boy Williamson II (?) / Junior Wells (?)
Ain't Your Business – Slim Harpo
You Better Watch Yourself – Little Walter
Don't Go No Farther (aka Got To Love Somebody) – Muddy Waters
Still A Fool – Muddy Waters
Forty Days And Forty Nights – Muddy Waters
Dream Girl – Slim Harpo
Evil – Howlin' Wolf
No Way Out – ?
Blues With A Feeling – Little Walter

I think Shake 'em on down was written by Bukka White

Shake 'em On Down – Mississippi Fred McDowell:
Does anybody know which version?
Since the whole album seems to be a tribute to the blues music Mick listened to in the late 1950s/early 1960s, "Shake 'em On Down" could be based on McDowell's 1959 version on "Roots Of The Blues – Southern Folk Heritage Series" (Atlantic Atlantic SD-1348, released in 1960), which Mick might have acquired as an import via mail order from the states.

Don't Go No Farther:
Recorded by Muddy Waters, written by Willie Dixon, right?

Anyway, great album.

Would like to revive this thread with a question about "Shake 'em On Down". Which version of this song did Mick use as a source for his 1992 recording? Any ideas?

In the light of "Blue & Lonesome" I did some more research on Mick's sources for his unreleased 1992 blues album and after comparing dozens of different recordings of the songs I can now confirm that he used the following recordings as his sources:

Mean Old World (Little Walter, 1952)
You Better Watch Yourself (Little Walter, 1954)
Checkin' Up On My Baby (Sonny Boy Williamson II, rec. 1960, rel. 1965)
Still A Fool (Muddy Waters, 1951)
That Ain't Your Business (Slim Harpo, rec. 1959*, rel. 1976 or 1980)
Shake 'em On Down (Doctor Ross, rec. 1952, rel. 1972)**
Forty Days And Forty Nights (Muddy Waters, 1956)
Dream Girl (Slim Harpo, rec. 1960, rel. 1961)
Evil (Howlin' Wolf, 1954)
One Way Out (Elmore James, rec. 1961, rel. 1965)
Blues With A Feeling (Little Walter, 1953)
Talk To Me Baby (Elmore James, 1960)
Don't Go No Farther (Muddy Waters, 1956)

*The version with instrumental intro, not the version that starts with Harpo singing.
**It has been suggested that one of Mississippi Fred McDowell's versions of the song was Mick's source, but they are all different from Mick's version. The only version that matches the music and lyrics of Mick's recording is the Doctor Ross recording from 1952.
