I don't like the choir in the beginning either, but Keith's acoustic and electric guitars and Al Kooper's organ, together with Bill & Jimmy's backing make a fantastic track. And that instrumental passage, that sort of bridge, it soars. One of the great ones. The arrangement for the 72' and 73' tours works great as well.

One of my very favorite track, love the choir and always wish they could have a choir on a live performance.

HATE ....... WOW that's a friggin' HEAVY word ain't it .....

Rockman, one of the reasons I loathe it now is it's overplayed ... Christ, there's TONS of material by these guys that never gets the light of day and that should be remedied.

Overplaying can absoluetly ruin songs. But it's not quite the same. I mean I had a barf-reflex on Sweet Neo-Con at first listen, but the first time I heard You Can't Always Get What You Want I loved it.

The perfect Stones song. Bookending Let it Bleed's messaged of doom and decay with a closing curtain on the 60's: the end of hippies, the end of naivety, the end of optimism, the end of an era. Opening with a choral that is sickly sweet, dripping with a cloying angst of beauty and dread. The opening acoustic is like a bright sunny day on a open green with swaying skeletons sipping tea and eating scones. Jagger's angst ridden voice slithers forward singing of the height of hypocrisy of the upper class. All appearances of pomp and circumstance, yet just as decadent and duplicitous, tea and sympathy. And then you are kicked in the stomach the opening salvo of Miller's fantastic drum heralding the chorus of ultimate cynicism and optimism fighting like a devil and angle perched on each shoulder engaged in that endless battle for your conscience. The song roils and boils and builds and builds until the frantic gospel fade out. This is epic, and again combines that sweetly sick edge of decay and decadence that heralded a new era of overindulgence and narcism. One of their finest recorded moments and an opera of irony. Love it.

It's a great song - OBJECTIVELY. You're wrong.

Overplayed yet still great....now that is a measure of how great it is.
I think it's come through for people many times when one has a sense of loss and survival and needs a nudge to move forward.

You at least make a valid point, and I agree, but for someone to come on and 'Hate',then I have a problem. Yes we all have our opinions. but to question YCAGWYW.one of the greatest songs ever written with the word 'hate'that's not good.I think that the Beatles are way over rated but I would never 'Hate'them.I would say I 'Respect' them for what they have done and their legacy.

You really should listen to the original or Brussels '73 once more. The best versions imo.
