I found two recordings on youtube. One says SFTD w/ Keef on bass with Clapton. the other says with Santana. The recordings are not that great so its hard to tell. One does sound like clapton the other like santana. Are they both correct, but it was different nights???

don't give me that ole one two, one two three four

the top one is clapton - 6/22/75 - my first concert ever!

yes, two different nights - when clapton came out the guy to my right kept screaming, "lennon, lennon!"

Okay, why is Keith playing bass? (And he doesn't do a bang up job). Did Bill go snog a quick groupie?

It was both Richards and Wyman on bass when Clapton joined. As far as I know the only time Richards played bass on stage apart from R&R Circus.

Wow. Mick's vocals seem a bit off tempo! But Clapton tears it up. Wooo Hoo!

"it was different nights???"

Clapton = June 22
Santana = June 27

And both versions are equally awful grinning smiley

EVERY version of Sympathy at MSG'75 was the same trainwreck because Mick was all over the place with his vocals. Sounds to me like they either didn't rehearse it properly or he couldn't hear the rest of the band because of the steel drums.

The performance was completely re-arranged for the LA gigs and Sympathy sounded much better at the Forum.

i say cut 'em slack - they hadn't played it for years - there were dozens of people onstage - it was at the end of an exhausting show the likes of which jagger had never attempted - new wireless mics cutting out all over the place - that it even sounds like sympathy seems a miracle

Interesting that Bill had a Travis Bean bass as early as 1975. I did not know that.

Techically he didn't -this Travis Bean TB2000 bass was given to Richards somewhere in May 1975 by Travis Bean himself. This was a long scale version that Wood used for Fingerprin File. Wyman did not start playing Travis Bean basses until very late in '77, when Travis Bean make a short scale version for him.

The bass Wyman is playing on the pic is an Ampeg London 343 bass.
