Lesson: stay the hell out of helicopters.

Small planes too: A former colleague was killed in one of them a few weeks ago.

Motorcycles three: An old friend lost her husband in a motorcycle accident a few years ago, when a 15-year-old kid in an SUV made a U-turn on a desert road without looking.

As professional wrestling manager Bobby (the Brain) Heenan once said: "Don't drink, don't drive, just walk." eye popping smiley

I went to his memorial service in Dallas. Here are some pictures I took. Saw ZZ Top, Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown there. Clapton was supposedly there too. When they sang Amazing Gracy, it was VERY moving. [www.facebook.com]

Gone too soon
Saw him live and thought it was great.
Now I just collect the live shows in memory...

I never get tired of hearing SRV, whether he's just talking or playing:

It is also interesting to note that his father ("Big Jim" Vaughan, for whom Stevie Ray's older brother, Jimmie, was named) also died on August 27... in 1986.

Always liked SRV's version of Taxman.

Be thankful I don't take it all:

Contrary/ian opinion : the guy never moved me in any way. To me he's some sort of vulgar muscular Clapton = his blues comes from the heart but it sounds fake and flat (to me).
And Lenny with its mix of blues and jazz is imho goddamn awful...

Here is my favorite Stevie Ray Vaughan song although it's actually The Vaughan Brothers with his brother, Jimmy. Released after SRV died. I saw the show the night before he died and we watched helicopters leave that night after the show and we were commenting on how we would never go up in one in that fog. They did again the next night and we lost Stevie Ray. Even if you don't like him, you might find it hard not to like this song.

Was at the show the day before the accident. What I remember most was how head and shoulders Clapton's performance was above other Clapton performances I have seen. Following Stevie Ray seems to have been good motivation for him.
