Yesterday a radio station played a snippet of this, starting with the question that appears at about 2:55

Wow...what a time capsule. So interesting to see how naive/inane the questions and general dialogue was from the press.

The Beatles were unimpressed, uninterested in the whole affair (and i can't blame them).

They couldn't get away with that attitude nowadays, they would be skewered.

Most surprising to me anyway, is that George and Paul equally took pleasure in eviscerating the press...much more so than John. I think John was being more low-key because of all the fracas caused with his 'bigger than Jesus' comment.

This was the last Beatles press conference as a quartet

Times have changed the other way, too. John's remark about Eleanor Rigby being influenced by "two queers" would never fly nowadays. That would cause more furor in today's times. Notice, too, how everyone laughed. Not today. Too bad.

Really...that is very interesting considering they continued on for another 4 years.

Yup- the closest they got to another one was the death of Brian Epstein- but that was just John, George and Ringo. Amazing but true!

They did a photo-op for the All You Need Is Love broadcast, but I'm not sure if there was a press conference as well.

That is incorrect!

...

24th August 1966 - LA press conference featured above.

25th August 1966 - Flew to Seattle, held press conference, did 2 shows, flew back to LA.

26th/27th August 1966 - rest and recuperation in Bel-Aire.

28th August 1966 - Gig at Dodgers Stadium.

29th August 1966 - Gig at Candlestick Park.

Today I listened to a July '64 TV show broadcast. A Hard Day's Night was wonderful with Paul singing the chorus. I can groan at Paul for this or that, but then I hear him sing with Lennon and I melt. All is forgiven.

In '64 they were a breath of fresh air. It was all positive and very welcome. By '66 it was getting to be too much and taking its toll.

I agree. People laughed and got the joke back then. Not now.

It's nice how we can all hold hands and be intolerant.

Clearly a joke. If someone said that now, they'd be raked over the coals.
I'm just pointing out how times have changed.

The DJ who aired the clip I heard yesterday pointed out that Paul's quip about the TIME magazine comments was certainly not aired way back then, and I'm sure the same was true about the "two queers" line. They got a big yuk in the room, but either comment would probably been considered "not fit for broadcast."

So times have changed.
