One of the giants of bluegrass music. He was rediscovered with the music from the movie, O Bother Where Art Thou, which is a great collection of music to acquire.

RIP indeed.

Many of my friends are sad today. I'm not the biggest fan of Bluegrass music but know a great talent when I hear one. Happily I'll be able to listen to his music on recordings. dmay's recommendation of the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack is seconded by me!

He was a true legend. A friend of mine plays on a bluegrass band, introduced me to his work and I've been his fan ever since. RIP, Dr. Stanley.

Here's a nice duet with Bob Dylan:

Fantastic, Cristiano!

I saw him in 2012 at Hardly strictly Bluegrass (in San Francisco). He was there pretty much every year. Here's a short but nice clip smiling smiley

I can remember catching Bob Dylan on tour circa 202, when he would open with Stanley Brothers numbers such as Somebody Touched Me, I Am The man Thomas, White Dove, Searching for A Soldier's Grave.

Consequently, I bought a Stanley Brothers' album, and enjoyed it. Ralph also turns up, in style, duetting with Dylan on The Winding Stream on Tell Tale Signs. I often think Dylan's arrangement of Man of Constant Sorrow from 1961 owes a lot to the Stanley Brothers.
