How Keith Plays Gimme Shelter

Watching LA Friday, is Keith Playing Gimme Shelter in an open tuning? His fingering looks totally different from how he plays it these days.

Not familiar with the film but is he playing it with "A" shapes lower on the neck ? He's often alternated between those and the "E" shaped chords higher up the fretboard.

Yeah - it does look as if he's playing "A" shape barre chords here. I know he did that in 1997 too. More recently the "E" shapes. But in some shots it almost looked like he was using only one finger...

Wish Mick would play harp on the live versions.

Yeah - He's so good at it, why not?

I donĀ“t have LA Friday on my screen right now, but I guess KR recorded that song and still plays it in an open-E tuning with six strings. The fingerings (is that how you call it?) are similar to open-G (one string lower each, of course), but you get the deep drowning e string into play that way.
I read that in an article in "Guitar Player" in the late 80ies.
I hore it helps.

Cheers, Fillmore

Standard tuning, bar chording licks is the recording. Watch the 1997 video, at times he uses the open G finger styling as well.

In the end of the song Ronnie uses to play the A-shape chords

Now? Clumsily, no fluidity. But, I STILL LOVE IT!

I want to say that the Wino version is the one. The studio version is not only a great performance but also good production
