kinda saw that coming,i saw him with willie last year and he didnt look the same,.very frail.he'd been sick off and on and missing tour dates here and there because of it.

there will never be another Merle, man that guy was the real deal.

funny story-many non country fans think Merle was actually an "okie from muskogee" and the song is a real heartfelt tune- the truth is Hag was from bakersfield California and they were travelling through Oklahoma on a tour bus smoking a joint.when they passed a sign that said"Muskogee" somebody said "i'll bet they don't smoke any weed there"-thus the parody...we dont smoke no marijuana.we dont take our trips on LSD...he was high when he wrote the song!!

a great singer songwriter,we'll miss ya Hag..

And I turned twenty-one in prison doing life without parole / No one could steer me right but Mama tried, Mama tried / Mama tried to raise me better, but her pleading I denied / That leaves only me to blame 'cause Mama tried…

Starting to think Willie's a curse for me, last time I went to see him Johnny Cash died that morning, and the time before that my brothers dog died that day and mine the day before!

yup,country music,the white mans blues.

to put it in perspective for non-fans, Merle Haggard passing away is to country music[real country music]is what B.B. King dying was to the blues.

he can't be replaced,it's just another crushing blow to real music of every genre.

Bit of a bad year for entertainers, 2016.

Hag wrote some great tunes, Runnin' Kind, Skid Row, Swingin' Doors, etc. He also did a nifty Jimmie Rodgers tribute album, and a My Farewell to Elvis album. He joins the possum, George Jones, and the Man In Black, Johnny Cash.

RIP Mr. Haggard.

Although I knew he wasn't doing well, my heart dropped when I read this news earlier this afternoon. I can't think of how many times I've performed his music on stage. Pretty sure we did "Mama Tried" at at least one of our gigs last weekend if not both of them.

Sad

Peace,
Mr DJA

Please immediately stop buying concert tickets until your theory has been completely vetted...

What a terrible loss to the world of music. If We Make It Through December was the first Hag song that ever grabbed me. Once I started exploring his music I was hooked. One of his songs was my wedding song. Very beautiful tune. As my little tribute to Merle, here it is.

The late Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins worshiped Merle Haggard.

They never met him but eventually Haggard took the time to listen

to several LS songs and wrote me a brief note to say he regretted

that he'd waited "too long..."

Honky Tonk Night Time Man - written and recorded by Merle in 1974.
Here's Lynyrd Skynyrd's great cover version from Street Survivors released in '77:

And Merle's original:

Both are great!thumbs up

If there's a Hee-Haw Heaven, you know there is a hell of a band. He and Buck Owens and all the rest of them.
