A Degree of Murder Soundtrack

An earlier post regarding Brian Jones makes me ask--- why doesnt some really cool company like Rhino Records or Sundazed, which specialize in 60's rarites FINALLY issue the soundtrack to Brian's "A Degree of Murder" ?
Brian composed all the music, played guitar, harp, mellotron, recorder, horns, and was aided by studio stalwarts like Jimmy Page and a very young Peter Frampton helped out--
I 've heard bits and pieces and always thought it sounded pretty interesting--
I am sure there would be an audience for an official release--especially Stones fans....
Sounds like some record company is missing the boat....

I gave you this answer in another thread.

There seems to be legal issues that nobody dares to get into. The mastertapes are also said to be lost wich makes it tricky. If anybody finally decide to actually go for it, he/she can only hope that Volker Schlöndorff has got a copy that can be used to restore into a official release and that he is ready to take part in such a project.

That's a way to look at it. smiling smiley

I wonder if Brian ever thought about releasing it? He is said to have been very proud of the work.

There seems to be a problem with the master tapes. No one knows where they are. You can't release a soundtrack album without the tapes. I would love for it to get an official release.

Does anyone have articles on Brian making the soundtrack? Any info at all?

Does anyone have a DVD (or even a VHS tape) of the movie? Would love to see it...

In writing and producing the track, I used a series of different groups, from one
musician to ten. I ran the gamut of line-ups from the usual bass line-up to using
violin and banjo. Mostly they were session men, but some of the group helped
out. I myself played sitar, organ, dulcimer, harmonica and harp ... Brian Jones

However, when EAR CANDY contacted Stones bassist Bill Wyman, he informed us that he personally did NOT play on the project.

The movie was out on pirate/bootleg DVD a couple of years ago, looked like a good dub from VHS. I only watched about 20 minutes of it.

Fancy trading it on DVD?

I sadly don't own a computer so I can't copy but I'm sure a reader here can help.

I have the Idol Mind "40th Anniversary" version, seems to be the clearest available.

I'll see if I can copy it and upload the awful film with a cool soundtrack for others to see that it is indeed awful, but has a cool soundtrack. grinning smiley

Just to note -the rights to the soundtrack are with Dutch movie producer Rob Houwer. He has an agency in Amsterdam and can be contacted.

I find the film and soundtrack junk, though.
