Yes it's a concept album. Saw them on tour during this album. The album is a cross between progressive rock and story telling. Hard to describe. It shows Todd as a great inavator.

Talking about RA. I guess Utopia was into pyramid power at the time.
are you talking about RA, the first Utopia album or both?

some of brian wilson's solo stuff has sold next to nothing in the states. i have a short list of who i would call a musical genius:
prince
todd rundgren
brian wilson
david bowie
lou reed
stevie wonder
ray davies
pete townshend
not all of those i listed have sold huge numbers

Of that list, Prince, Todd, Stevie, and Pete have recorded albums where they played all (or almost all ) of the instruments. (John Fogarty and McCartney did the same trick as well ). Todd and Pete engineered their records as well.

IMHO, no. Just about everything he did up through Todd is very very good. Starting with side two of Initiation (the first side is very good) he got into the twenty minute "explorations", later to be further explored by the original version of Utopia. If prog-rock is your thing, you might enjoy this style. But, if you're looking for the 3 minute pop gems of Something/Anything, steer clear. He had a couple of comebacks with Faithful (side 2 only, the covers are note-by-note homages) and Hermit of Mink Hollow. Since then he has (again, in my opinion) never come close to the quality of his 70s stuff. YMMV
His 60s stuff with The Nazz is pretty interesting also.Quote

Plus if they are such geniuses they would sell more. Come on. It is a self pepetuating thing that takes on a life of its own.
