OT Radiohead Fans?

Rolling Stone has a nice article on the new Radiohead album here:

I guess most of the songs are familiar to hard core fans but I hadn't heard many of these ... some pretty good stuff I'd say.

According to the Sun, Radiohead will give fans the option as to how much they pay for their new releasse when the put it on the internet.

It doesn't actually go on sale in the shops untill next year.

I like some Radiohead songs, but absoloutley nothing post - OK Computer

I thought OK Computer was (is) a true masterpiece and they certainly didn't play it safe as much of the material that followed was a real departure, quite experimental and probably inaccessible to the casual fan. I find many of the cuts from the new release quite compelling and I'm hoping they decide to tour again soon.

Yes Radioheads new disc will be avaliable ONLY on their website radiohead.com When you select the songs you want you will be prompted "how much are do you want to pay?" And if you hit it again, you will again be asked, "really, how much do you want to pay?" and it is perfectly allowed to pay nothing! But not too fair if they put their hear and soul into a great recording...
Heads up to the stones, maybe instead of worrying about hits, and taking so long to record, try this method and cut out the middle men!

It would be great if the Stones follow suit as a token of appreciation to their fans, but it will not happen in our lifetime, the greed for money is too overpowering.

Bold iconoclasts, dem Radiohead boys. This novel approach to selling their album makes me proud to be a fan of theirs ever since The Bends in 1995.

If I can scrape together enough money, I'm considering spending $82 (in U.S. funds) to get the physical package of the album. But that's a lot to spend, given the weak dollar and the limited availability.

saw them open for REM way back when. Hated em prior to that, and thoroughly despised em afterward.

Have you heard the Bends? One of their first, really good with lots of guitars.

I can't agree with that. There must be at least half a dozen British contemporary bands alone that surpass them.

Well, from the long list of UK artists founded since Radiohead's creation, I would rank the following above Thom Yorke and co.:

    [*] Blur
    [*] The Verve
    [*] Gorillaz
    [*] Hot Chip
    [*] The Kooks
    [*] Young Fathers

Olly, you obviously know your music, and I'd agree with some of the entries on your list (Verve, Blur), but The Kooks?!?!?!

The Bends and OK Computer are both very strong releases. They loose it for me from Kid A onwards, however. I haven't heard Pablo Honey, but Anyone Can Play Guitar is a decent heavy-rock number and who doesn't know Creep?

on that metric, KC and the Sunshine Band is the greatest band of all time. I want to put on, mymymymymy boogie shoes.

It's pretty generic & you're not missing much. But "Stop Whispering" is another really good one on there.

...and boogie with youthumbs up

That's not the only metric; I'd also rate the musicianship, entertainment value, originality and aesthetic of The Kooks above that of Radiohead.

You have absolutely no obligation to substantiate your suport of drbryant's statement that Radiohead are the best band of the past twenty years, especially to a 'newbie' like myself, but I would genuinely be fascinated to know what led you to your conclusion.
