While I agree with the premise they are a joke, I do think they had some good tunes, Detroit Rock City, Deuce, Hard Luck Woman, the 2000 man cover, even Rock and Roll All Night isn't a bad 'party' tune.

But there is too much to dislike.

A very polished garage band. The thing with Kiss is there's zero talent. It's just moaning noise. I heard 3 songs on the radio yesterday. One of them was Strutter. I was floored at how bad they were. Are. Whatever.

Right Treacle. I even liked that one big hit of them.
But in the end they're still a joke.

I avoided the album for years having read only terrible things about it and then a radio station played it in its entirety and I taped it and listened to that cassette a lot and thought, "It's actually pretty good."

They can't be THAT bad.

They inspired alot of kids to pick up a guitar. They were fun, larger-than-life and in the early days, could really rock live.
And I laugh when Stones fans critixize Gene for being a marketing whore.
Plus, they were always hardcore Stones fans.
People could lighten up a bit. It's only rock and roll...

It's easy to look at KISS today and be judgmental and critical but back in the day they had something going on, mainly a very entertaining live show and superb marketing based on their wild visuals. I was never really a fan, liked maybe 2 of their songs but I still respect them for what they were....a rock and roll circus act.

I categorize them with manufactured bands like The Archies, The Monkees and The Partridge Family , their target audience was similar, kids. It was a gullible time for kids too young to participate in the wild rock of the day but smart enough to know something musical was happening which was changing the landscape and their big brothers and sisters....KISS was a natural outlet for them. IMO

Of course as an adult, it's hard to continue to take them seriously, except in a nostalgic way..

That was obviously a joke, my lack of logic has its limits.

But I would definitely agree with Naturalust.

Naturalist nails it. I had a Kiss poster as an 8 year old. I had never even heard them. I just liked the wildness of what they looked like. Later on I heard them, saw what their shows were like on TV, thought it was pretty cool.

E.T was a great movie... when I was however old it was when it came out. I saw it recently and was stunned at how bad it really is.

I've never felt that way about the Stones or Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd and on and on. Some bands are just terrible no matter how they're marketed. Sure, Kiss looks like a lot of fun. Or at least the original version of the band. Since then, since they took the make up off and put it back on, it's strictly to make money. And, amazingly, they still have zero talent as musicians!
