Is Mick Jagger Going To Blow Rolling Stones Date With Destiny?
Posted by: stonescrow ()
Date: May 22, 2011 21:49

As we all know July 12, 2012 is the official recognized 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones. Some fans (not me) are already beginning to speculate that Mick is going to snub the Stones in 2012 for a new so called "Super Group" that he has reported to be involved with. Do you think Mick would be that foolish (or that hurt as some have suggested) to turn his back on the Stones while they are on the threshold of their 50th anniversary?

Mick has frequently expressed his disdain for nostalgia but who, other than Mick, really knows ?

He may very well not be nostalgic, but he does have a nose for business.

I don't think Mick really cares about the OFFICIAL date (July 12, August 18, December 31, wherever), he thinks about the current status of the members, health, desire, financial... and obviously, the Stones are not a priority for him by now.
2012 is a year ahead in time, many things can happen in between, and if the Stones' played their last gig in 2007, well, I don't think Mick really cares about it either.

The likelihood of the date in question being remembered by anyone other than us was never particularly strong. A Fall 2012 tour start date was always the best case scenario.

I'm less concerned about Super Heavy (a project that has been building for the past four years) or a Winos project (something that has remained a possibility since 1996) than I am with the fact that the last tour was four years ago and every January since there is a press release confirming the band's lack of tour plans regardless of the rampant rumors and media speculation and even quotes from every band member to the press that would seem to indicate activity was forthcoming. Ultimately, I believe pretty much nothing any of them might care to say about future plans until there is a tour announcement. As far as I can tell, the hope they keep instilling is just a way to avoid discussing something private with the media. Empty sound bytes to protect privacy.

Another 'will they tour' thread under a new name?

What's the fuss all about? The 'Superheavy' thing has been a pet project thats been going on for a couple of years on and off. Its pretty much (or completely) finished. It'll be out later in the year and it's a pretty safe bet he wont tour behind it. He's also been involved in working on the 'Some Girls' reissue (according to a recent interview with Keith)

I seem to remember him making his last solo record in 2004. He still managed to start work on a new Stones record later that year, finish it and tour with them in 2005. If the Stones are inactive, what's he meant to do? Twiddle his thumbs for years on end?

Yeah, and besides all that, he's been busy trying on all of L'Wren's new dresses. That takes a lot of time, you know...

If anyone has blown the opportunity of a 50 anniversary, tour or show, it has been Keith Richards with his constant attacks on the one person that saved his ass in many occasions, and that always stood by him..
Mick probably has had enough,so on with Supergroup...

Mick's 'Date with Destiny' was bumping into Keith with a bunch of blues albums under his arm. That date with destiny created an amazing musical history.

Playing a gig 50 years later is just celebrating.

Mick is a pretty sharp cookie, he just has to understand the historical significance of cracking 50 years. If not, then we will just have to keep reminding him. Keith get's it!

If it happens, very probably a big celebration...but it is in no way a date with destiny.

I like to think it was their destiny to achieve 50 years and beyond.

Not Mick, it seems. Which is possibly why he's not making one.

My 80-year-old mother, at the retirement home she lives at, gets hit on regularly by men as old as 95. These are guys with tubes up their noses, dragging oxygen tanks around with them, talking about what they are still able to do as long as they take a viagra. Sex never stops, apparently. Not until you're dead.

Doesnt necessarily have to stop then, either. Just sayin'....

If The Stones decided to tour business people are organising now. They don't need to put out new product as they have 'new' songs from The Exile and (presumably) Some Girls reissues to promote (or throw out another Best Of with a variety of Super Delux packages).

They just need to get together and get it straight with themselves.

Personally I think there will be some kind of activity next year but what (tour, one offs etc) I don't know. And I know there's a strong section of fans who consider it a bad idea to tour after the 2007 Bigger Bang shows.
