Townshend is currently writing his autobiography and it should be out sometime in 2012. I'm sure it will be an interesting read and looking forward to it. I hope he spends some more time actually discussing his songwriting, recording and touring than Keith did in "Life." I'm also wondering how he will deal with the period when he was under investigation and facing charges for downloading child pornography, as well as his own drug and alcohol problems.

I for one am happy he didn't die before he got old. In most ways The Who never measured up to the Stones, but Pete was/is an amazing and innovative musician. The "Who's Next" songs from '71 were light years ahead for their time and still sound amazing - true definition of classics. Quadrophenia and Tommy obviously were great too and ambitious. The Who also had some pretty cool mid'60's tracks like "I Can See For Miles", "Pictures of Lily" "Tattoo", "I Can't Explain". "Live at Leeds" comes pretty darn close to Ya's Ya's in greatness as far as live recordings go from that period.

Happy Birthday Pete!

I never liked the Who, but I will never forget the 9/11 concert.
I never saw anything like it, so much passion, and it was special.
It was John's last show. I love the Who now, I guess I finally get it.

Pete you're the man. Just read in Uncut that he said he wouldn't have joined a band. Wow!

Pete's acoustic solo stuff is always outstanding - as good as The Who.

I think Roger Daltry said Pete used to come in with the demos and they would wonder why he needed the band.

The old boy is still pretty good. Just check out this version of Acid Queen done earlier this year.

I think a comment like this taken out of context overlooks Pete's Point: If he was a solo artist he would have been able to release a lot more material. But as a member of a band he had to create songs suited for the band.
Just a clarifying point.

Yeah he's great.

I'm surprised though that he can still do his fabulous flamenco type strumming when a few years ago he said he couldn't because he broke his hand really badly when he fell off his bike and all the flexibility had gone.

66? That's nothing to shout out about, It's either 60 or 70. Apart from these "big days" - these as are all just wasted years for everyone. Same way about being 14, 42, 93, 8.....we're all just waiting for the next big birthday.
Hang in there, for the next 4 years, Pete - for God's sake!

Having recently lost my 62-year-old father unexpectedly, it only, in my eyes at least, goes to amplify your total ignorance. What an utter prick you are.

Pete has offered up an evidently expert opinion on todgergate.

[moreintelligentlife.com]
I mention the success of Richards’s memoir. “The point is,” Townshend says, “when we read Keith Richards’s book, are we really reading who he is? James Fox [Richards’s ghost] is a brilliant writer. I think it’s sad that we will only remember Keith’s book because of what he said about the size of Mick’s [apparently modest] genitals. Which, by the way, to use an apt term, is bollocks. I’ve seen them, and they are not small. And it is not just the balls that are big.”
