pretty standard practice with the day care center next door to my work they use the same group leash when they walk the kids around for there daily strol.not abuse at all .it's about safety .same thing for the day care by my home .you see them all over the place . go to any mall and you see parents with the kids on single rope/leashes.Quote

No, the leashes made a comeback in the 2000s. There's a day care center down the street, and when they take the youngin's for a walk around the block they have them strapped to a group leash with a rope running down the middle--they learn to "tow the line" really early in life these days.

"Reins" (not "leashes", at least not in the UK) were pretty standard for toddlers at least as far as the early 50s, when I wore mine.

reins were popular for parents to use on toddlers when i was a kid growing up in scotland.
it wasnt controversial and never considered abuse, and dont know why it should be, it kept kids from running away from thier parents or running in front of a car.

Same when I was growing up in England. They were just normal, but times change. Certainly seems bizarre to think there was any abuse involved, quite the opposite, as you said.
