Love his control here...classic.

Better than any artist of the same period including Jagger.

Underrated artist?
Yes

A truly great band, no doubt.

Eric has one of the best Rock'n'Roll voices!

I'd love get live tapes from their last two line ups from April to December '68,
please search your archives!

Didn't I read somewhere, that for a short time Danny McCulloch was considered
to take over the bass duties with the Stones in the nineties?

I got to see him play with War (or what's left of it) at the Albert Hall a few years back. Such a great voice. And very underrated.

Think he'd make a great Stones guest.

I love War: that first album, with the tribute to Rahsaan Roland Kirk is brilliant.

Love the original Animals band. Classic guitar riff by Hilton Valentine as well as Alan Price on the keyboards. Chas Chandler brought Jimi Hendrix over to England to record. Jimi's only request was to meet Clapton and Jeff Beck.

Yes along with John Lennon, one of the best rock voices.
His career has not been helped by (particularly in his earlier period )his somewhat truculent and uncompromising attitude.
Also, not very good choices of Managers.
I certainly didnt expect to see him around in his 70's.
He now records for the ABKCO label!!

I once saw War in early 1970 in Pasadena, CA. Not long before that, the Moody Blues were not admitted into the U.S. because of a drug charge. So, EB sang, as a tribute to the Moodys, Nights in White Satin, at the end of which he said, "I know, that music is crap." I thought he did a good job with a song out of his wheelhouse, and his tribute was sincere.

One of my favorite Animals tunes is Don't Bring Me Down. Just love the organ and the beat.

An album that still sounds full and fresh is the mid-seventies album he recorded called Eric Burdon Sings the Animals Greatest Hits. Length-wise it's the equivalent of a double album (82:14), and has a few covers of other artists including Paint It Black, Nights In White Satin, and A Day In The Life.

1. House Of The Riding Sun
2. Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood
3. We Gotta Get Out Of This Place
4. It's My Life
5. When I Was Young
6. The Real Me
7. Home Dream
8. Stop
9. Paint It Black
10. Nights In White Satin
11. Tobacco Road
12. Mother Earth
13. City Boy
14. Have Mercy Judge
15. A Day In The Life

The first English Invasion band I got into. IMHO, I still think they did blues stuff in their early years much better than the Stones, but that's just me. Here's a cut or two or so from their reunion album.

I saw Eric Burden with the Brian Augner Band in the early 90s and he was really great.

They have a unique version of Roadrunner. The organ is very good on this one too.

Dimples, Boom, Boom, great songs.

I think when the original lineup split up, they did suffer some. Some of the best Blues Rock for me.

And of course, House is a landmark song.

I never heard them sing "Big Boss Man" but I know the song, sounds tailor-made for Burdon's vocals.

Honorable Mention: Ramones did "When I was young", worth a listen, they closely copy the original.

Saw Eric two years ago. Great concert and I would highly recommend seeing him
While he is still performing. His books are a good read too!

I have probably seen Eric about 10 times over the past 15 to 18 years and when I leave the show I always say, wow, what a voice!

I think that 'House of the rising sun' still is his biggest gift to music history...

His recent solos get rave reviews at amazon.

"Bring it on home" again, is very good as well.

Some say being the Geordies they are, being from up near Newcastle limited their exposure some.

Saw him about 10 years ago.

They did a duet, it is on an Otis bootleg called "Soupcon Of Soul".
"Shake" and "Land Of Thousand Dances".
And hats off to the incredible drummer on these songs!

Regarding Burdon's cover of Nights In White Satin, there is an interesting footnote regarding Burdon and the Moodies given that it was Burdon who passed Justin Hayward's demo along to Mike Pinder after Justin answered Eric's add in the Melody Maker for lead guitarist. Here's the Moodies doing a version of a song the Animals had a hit with around that time.
