Ahh I remember buying the All Around The World single in december 1997, and the week before I spend numerous hours in my room listen to the original version cos I heard it would be the b-side and I wanted to learn all the words before it came out. I think Liam's anger gives the song a new dimension, although the original's got a more experimental sound (regarding the white powder intake during 1997, it's perhaps no surprise). But I often play this version before going out, it gets you in the mood.

This was just posted yesterday on the bad covers thread. Yeah, most Stones covers suck. I was looking for a good Rod Stewart burlesqueing but I'm still looking.

Oasis did the best Stones cover in my book anyway, along with the guy who did Tumblin' Dice on the Paint It Blue record, that's also a great bonfire tribute. Forgot his name but that was his last ever recording. What a way to finish.

Fantastic despite the muddy mix.

Oasis had some really good songs of their own and they made some of the best covers ever, nice take on the Stones.

Yes, I like it very much. IMO the best cover of a Rolling Stones song ever.

It's as horrible as all of their music is.

Don't like it. I don't routinely hate Oasis, just don't like this. It's heavy, it lumbers and plods where the original flies... Oasis do some good covers, but this isn't one of them.

Why do they always have such a bad guitar sound?

And the drummer is dragging.

It's heavy cos it should be, easily the best band in the world after the Stones. The 90's would've been a s***e decade musicwise if it weren't for the Gallaghers.

15 years of FUN. Now there's only Stones and The Who left, after (God forbids) they're gone, you might as well do the white line cos there won't be any Great British Rock n Roll left.

Terrible. Just a glorified Beatles tribute bar band that hit the lotto. 1/2 the team seems to have a smidgen of talent. The other half has a talent for being a total putz and poser. Terrible version of it. First the instrument aspect is almost a direct copy, so why do it. Then the vocals come in with the nasal Lennon copy that is just so crappy it makes you yearn for the real thing either by The Stones, or The Beatles.

Stop slagging 'em off white mate, Oasis is the closest thing that has come close to a new Stones or The Who. Besides, Keef and Our Kid got the highest respect of each other, just check the Uncut interview with Keef in 2003. It's just that they gotta behave like kids cos the music media wants everyone to slag off each other. It's all about passing the torch. But the sad thing is that no-one deserves the torch after Oasis. Just like nobody deserves the pure Country torch after the one and only George Jones. Or the reaggae one after Romeo, Tosh and Marley.

They did a version of Neil Young's "Hey Hey My My (Into the Black)". It was too polished sounding. Only Neil can make the song THE SONG. Kind of like when Eric Clapton does a delta blues song. The edge is gone.

Sorry I still think they are shit. And I totally disagree they are the closest that has come to The Beatles, Who, Stones, et. al. That is silly and totally not accurate. They are a cheap knock off of classic British invasion groups. They aren't even close to matching The Stones, WHo, Beatles, and Kinks in originality and quality. Like I said, if I want to hear The Stones or the Beatles, I will go to the source, and not to a bar glorified bar band like Oasis.

Yeah that is exactly what I am talking about with these jokers. That is a total rip off of Street Fighting Man and the singer is just useless. Just shrugging his sholders and grimacing and trying to sound tough and cool with absolutely no range in his voice!

Kids' music. Not an ounce of originality in them, just pretence and swagger and the recycling of old rock riffs.

"Not an ounce of originality in them, just pretence and swagger and the recycling of old rock riffs."

But surely thats the deifinition of most rock n roll bands?

Not at all - not the great ones and what I'm talking about here is the difference between innovators like The Who who I know you love, The Beatles, Hendrix, Dylan and The Clash to other modern bands and artists like Radiohead, Spiritulaized, PJ Harvey and Anna Calvi. It's separating the wheat from the chaffe and for me the chaffe is lowest common denominator rock.

Don't get me wrong I really like the first 2 Oasis albums but after that they stalled big time. They are so derivative it is painful. I just expect more from rock and roll bands than join the dots, guess where we nicked the riff tunes.

No, I meant music for people who weren't lucky enough to be around when the real deal was happening.

Yes but they know we know it's SFM, not like they're hiding it. Oasis always paid tribute to the Beatles, Stones etc. And they made some of the best pop songs ever, not many, just a handful if not less. Live forever to name one.

I couldn't agree more regarding the drummer - I thought Alan White was awful; his 'dragging' drum-pattern repeated throughout the songs; always felt his drums really dragged the sound down.

Compare the 2006 Oasis Live DVD with Zak Starkey to the comatose drumming of Alan White from the 1997 DVD - almost the definition of how a good drummer can elevate a bands sound.

Oasis should have released a follow-up to the B-sides compilation, The Masterplan.

This is lovely
