Yeah I think they could consistently fill 3-5000 seat theatres. I'd much rather see that than a shed tour packaged with other bands.

thumbs up+1

The demand for a J. Geils reunion isn't widely shared unfortunately. I saw the 1999 reunion tour at Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, VA. Yeah, it was 105 degrees outside, but there were only about 500 people in a place that holds 23,000. The performance was excellent, but it was sad with the place so empty.

Sorry to correct you, but, there were over 11,000 tickets sold for that show. Every seat was filled. The lawn was a different story. That show rocked!! I was there.

wow thanks for this correction!

No correction necessary. The heat must have given you hallucinations. The show rocked like hell, but hardly anyone was there.

I was given a pair of lawn seats, which the promoter upgraded at the gate to put us in the back of the pavilion on account of the intense heat. That seemed a waste because the vast majority of the seats in front of us were not being used. There weren't enough people in the place to fill the 100 sections, let alone the 200 and 300 sections.

The only thing I can compare it to was Roxy Music at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland two years later. There were maybe 2,000 people in a 14,000 capacity venue for that one. My seats for that show were second row on the side, but, due to the sparse attendance, we were able to move a few rows back and closer to the center.

I'm sorry but I just can't believe there were only 500 people at Nissan... thas ridiculous. I could actually probably get the real number but I don't think I'm going to bother (I'd have to ask for a favor etc..)

Anyways here is a nice clip on youtube I'd never seen of Geils way back in 72.. probably the earliest existing video

I tell you: it WAS ridiculous. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't been there! The weather was insane and killed any chance for a walk-up gate.

The show was a bad miscalculation: The J. Geils Band never should have been booked in the hinterland. Merriweather (roughly halfway between Balmer and DC) or the 930 Club would have made more sense. But that would have meant swallowing some pride and dealing with another promoter.

There's not too many good things about living in Michigan. The economy is a shambles with no end in sight BUT the state is beautiful AND everytime J. Geils Band does one of their infrequent reunions, they bring it here. I've seen them three times in the last 12 years. Good as they've ever been. BETTER the last time because they added background singers AND the same horn section those 'Stones guys use.

The Boston venue is The Bank Of America Pavillion. Tickets on sale this Saturday at 10am. I guess that's East coast time. For me in the UK that's 3PM.

Friday 8/19 DTE Music Center in Detroit. Would love to see them hit Chicago on 8/20, but my guess is they'll add a second show in Detroit.
