Song names as album titles

Just wondered how they sometimes select a song as an album title (and sometimes a totally different name). It seems, that this habit was prevailing between 78 and 86:

Some Girls
Emotional Rescue
Undercover
Dirty work

Although, the first example is Let It Bleed, and IORR is also there. Interesting, that these songs are not necessary the strongest ones on the albums, but they might still somehow summarize or take the essence of the album (especially SG and DW).

Former representatives of the genre were The Beatles with titles like ' A Hard Days Night ' and ' Help ' ... do you think it was just because it was movies?

Beno! Wow! That's an interesting Point of view! Yeah, maybe cos Keith woke up from his 9-year old heroin addiction and got closer to the tunes. Although SG, ER and Undercover are pure Jagger tunes. (Maybe even DW, ain't that ine of Keith's..?) Hmmm, something to draw up for next year's term at the Rock n Roll University....

Interesting that Dirty Work was the last time they actually did that.

...and technically, the song is 'Undercover Of The Night'

Never knew that. Interesting, thanks for the info. Again, not really the strongest number on the album, imho.

i always find it lazy when groups do that. I prefer and interesting album title that is seperate from a song title--

Beggars Banquet
Exile on Main Street
Grrr (ok bad example!!)

even something as simple as 12x5 is better that using a song title, i think.

This thread got me thinking about other bands. All of AC/DC's albums have title tracks in them except Powerage. If You Want Blood, the live album from 78 doesn't contain the song of the same name, which is on Highway To Hell. Kind of like Zep's Houses of the Holy. Song is actually on Physical Graffiti.

I've never understood where this Undercover (Of The Night) thing is from. Where was it a parenthetical song title aside from the silly sheet music?

LPs with a title track, not a common thing for the Stones.

Let It Bleed
It's Only Rock'N'Roll
Some Girls
Emotional Rescue
Dirty Work

That's it! Although you could include Time Waits For No One...
