OT - HELP! Searching for a song
Posted by: DiamondDog7 ()

Sorry guys, but this is REALLY off topic. I really have to know what the song's name is.I'm looking for the name of song that is in my head for a long time.

I think this song is from the sixties. The sound is similar as 'The Days of Pearly Spencer' and 'Nights in White Satin'. There is an orchestra in this song. The singer sounds a little bit like Peter Noone.
At the end of the song the singer sings his last sentence and goes falsetto. The orchestra fades in with heavy violins/cello and high violins. They play a question-answer theme with a dramatic feeling. The song fades out.

So... can you help me to identify this song? Please help me with this...

No. It sure is NOT Roy Orbinson. I think.

Yes. I've heard it many times on classic rock radiostations. But I don't know if it was a huge hit in the 60s or not.

Peter Noone suggests early David Bowie, but I've just checked and none of his '60s output fits the bill.

I'll have another think...

Are there children singing in it?

@Thricenay: It's certainly NOT Bowie. I'm sure of that. ;-)

No, no children.

The song has a dramatic/melancholy feel.

The outro/end (question-answer play between violins) is only played in two minor chords.

Is it a slow ballad? I mean - "Everybody's Talkin" has the falsetto and strings at end, but isn't slow like "White Satin". Trying to get more of an idea of the feel for the song in question.

LOL

It wasn't Keith West's song. Sorry.

Hmmm... three words of the song. I'm not sure what he says in those last words before the outro, but I think it was: '****, give up your love and say... goodbyeeeee... <orchestra fades in>

No, not the Manhattans. It's not a soul song from the 70s.

My song is:

* From the 60s
* Sounds like : The Days of Pearly Spencer' and 'Nights in White Satin'.
* Is not bluesrock or a R&B song!
* Minor feeling

It's not Honeybus.

Unfortunately I do not know the lyrics.
What I do know is that the verse AND the outro/end of the song is in G minor and C minor (for the musicians among us).

It might help if you could tell us the time signature. 6/8? 3/4? 4/4?

Hocus Pocus by Focus... has a falsetto at the end, but may be too heavy for what you are looking for.

I think His Majesty has nailed it. I'm not really into this type of music, but to each his own.
