yes that is indeed by Ethan Russell - it was one of the Through the Past Darkly shoots,
same day as the one where they're lying flat on their backs in a pentacle pattern.

the only version i've got of the one you posted is real small
and it would be at least as grainy as that if you enlarged it - sorry!
there's also another one from this same damp-looking dockside scenario ... let me unearth it

Thanks

Did Keith steal Brian's boots too?

I think they both had those type of boots. But maybe Keith did took Brian's when he died.

These are great pix..thank you for posting these. They must be some of the last photos of the original Stones ever taken. Brian only had a little over a month left on this earth, kinda sad. sad smiley

Did Bill receive the same treatment as on the Rarities 1971-2003 album sleeve?

I'd like to know where these pics were taken. Perhaps a cellar in London ?

well, these shots do look like the TTPD shoot where they're on the ground.
i agree that there seem to be two TTPD shoots, but ... eek, i have to go to work!
i'll finish later.

The picture was also used for a Spanish compilation called "Gigantes del Pop". It shouldn't be any difficult to find for a reasonable price, I've seen it quite often on second hand stores and such.

i agree that there seem to be two TTPD shoots, but ... eek, i have to go to work!

what i started to say was:
it's Bill Wyman who specified may 21st 1969 as the date of the TTPD shoot
"with Ethan Russell at St Katharine's Dock, next to Tower Bridge" - see page 344 of Rolling With the Stones.
Ethan Russell told me once that he's sure the shoot took place in late 1968.
and i'm convinced they're both forgetting that there were two separate shoots: the pane-of-glass session and the dockside session.
the dockside shots look later to me, so maybe may 21st is right. and unless i've confused myself totally,
i think that means i agree with you, GilbertsGirl, right? :E

(and just for the record: in late 1968 Keith's hair was long and short at the same time -
another of those "don't try this at home" things that only Keith can do. like no other, baby :E)

If it is St.Katherines docks, the photo could have been taken here, or any other of the wine vaults.

>> Not sure what you mean by Keith hair being long and short at the same time <<

smile: the TTPD photo you've just posted is a great example of Keith's hair being all different lengths at once.
it's nothing serious ...
and i edited that previous post while you were posting your quote of it ...
and i'm glad if we both seem to think we agree :E

The studio session with glass etc was also in 1969, when that was exactly is unclear. I agree it happened before, but probably not that long before the the date of the St. Katherines Dock session, maybe both happened either side of May.

The St. Katherines Dock photos and the inside of Through The Past Darkly are the same session, as they're all wearing identical clothes. And Brian and Keith are both wearing snake boots. So maybe the St. Katherine shots are 1968 and the TTPD cover shots were May '69. Would love to see all the photos from that session.

If you go to Google Images and type in Rolling Stones Gigantes del Pop you'll see the album cover in question, but you can scroll down and see a friggin' circus of alternate covers for 45s and albums. There's one with a circa '65 era Brian Stones on the cover for a Brown Sugar/Tumbling Dice 45.
