Is this the greatest rock music verse-chorus ever written:
Posted by: The Sicilian ()
Date: April 5, 2011 05:28

There are a lot of good ones out there but I can't find one better, maybe I forgot some, what do you think?

Sympathy For The Devil

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

..or could it be this one:

Sittin' thinkin' sinkin' drinkin'
Wondering what I'd do when I'm through tonight
Smoking moping, maybe just hopin'
Some little girl will pass on by
Don't wanna be alone but I love my girl at home
I remember what she said
She said, "My, my, my don't tell lies, keep fidelity in your head
My, my, my, don't tell lies. When you're done you show go to be.
Don't say hi, like a spider to a fly
Jump right ahead and you're dead"

Cool title .... Hip words ....

I live on an apartment on the 99th floor of my block
And I sit at home looking out the window imagining the world has stopped
Then in flies a guy who's all dressed up just like a Union Jack
He says I've won 5 pounds if I have his kind of detergent pack

I said Hey you, get off of my cloud
Hey you get off of my cloud
Don't hang around 'cause two's a crowd
On my cloud... baby

Hey ho, lets go
hey ho, lets go
hey ho, lets go
hey ho, lets go

They're forming in a straight line
They're going through a tight wind
The kids are losing their minds
The blitzkrieg bop

They're piling in the back seat
They generate steam heat
Pulsating to the back beat
The blitzkrieg bop

Hey ho, lets go shoot em in the back now
What they want, I dont know
They're all revved up and ready to go

They're forming in a straight line
They're going through a tight wind
The kids are losing their minds
The blitzkrieg bop

They're piling in the back seat
They generate steam heat
Pulsating to the back beat
The blitzkrieg bop

Hey ho, lets go shoot 'em in the back now

Was that the Gene Vincent version? I have another arrangement that's faster, has a piano break, and a lyric about "red blue jeans" "queen of all the teens." Can anyone clarify?

NB: Check the rack on that girl at 3:34. They don't make tits like they used to . . .

Desert lovin your eyes all the way
If I listened to your lies would you say
I'm a man without conviction
I'm a man who doesn't know
How to sell a contridiction
You come and go, you come and go

CHORUS :
Karma karma karma karma karma kameleon
You come and go, you come and go
Loving would be easy if your colours were like my dreams
Red, gold and green
Red, gold and green

Didn't hear your wicked words every day
And you used to be so sweet I heard you say
That my love was an addiction
When we cling our love is strong
When you go you're gone forever
Just dream along, just dream along

turbonegro -what is rock

What is rock!?
Rock is the area between the balls
and the anus of a dog or of a man.

What is rock!?
Rock is the possibility of choking on your own vomit
in the back of a rapists van.

What is rock!?
Denim-clad Satanists making love
in the sewers of Birmingham during Maggie Thatcher's prime.

What is rock!?
Rock is meeting the Grim Reaper
in a sports arena stampede at the tender age of nine.

We keep on truckin', why oh why.
Spreading like cancer, my oh my.

What is rock!?
Backwards messages to boys and girls
to bring machine guns to their schools.

What is rock!?
No i'm not talking about canadian producer
and "fifth Metallica" Bob Rock, you fool.

What is rock!?
Old AC/DC? Cleveland, Ohio?
Basically it's harder, heavier,
and slightly more blues-based than pop.

What is rock!?
Historians keep nagging about Funhouse,
but me, I think Kill City's where it's at.
After decades of indie and house.
Six cats from oslo killed the mouse.

We saved rock 'n' roll . All on our own.
Enforced the toll on rock 'n' roll.
We saved rock 'n' roll .
With our bare hands.
We saved that goddamned rock 'n' roll.
So SKÅL!

Google search: "Chuck Berry Lyrics". Pick one. Personally I love the last verse to Memphis, TN...

"Last time I saw Marie she's waving me good-bye
With hurry home drops on her cheek that trickled from her eye
Marie is only six years old, information please
Try to put me through to her in Memphis Tennessee"

No chorus though, per se so I'll submit any verse/chorus of Nadine, You Never Can Tell, Tulane, No Particular Place To Go, Sweet Little Rock And Roller, Let It Rock.

Peace,
Mr DJA

Bob Dylan Positively 4th Street

You got a lotta nerve
To say you are my friend
When I was down
You just stood there grinning

You got a lotta nerve
To say you got a helping hand to lend
You just want to be on
The side that’s winning

You say I let you down
You know it’s not like that
If you’re so hurt
Why then don’t you show it

You say you lost your faith
But that’s not where it’s at
You had no faith to lose
And you know it

I know the reason
That you talk behind my back
I used to be among the crowd
You’re in with

Do you take me for such a fool
To think I’d make contact
With the one who tries to hide
What he don’t know to begin with

You see me on the street
You always act surprised
You say, “How are you?” “Good luck”
But you don’t mean it

When you know as well as me
You’d rather see me paralyzed
Why don’t you just come out once
And scream it

No, I do not feel that good
When I see the heartbreaks you embrace
If I was a master thief
Perhaps I’d rob them

And now I know you’re dissatisfied
With your position and your place
Don’t you understand
It’s not my problem

I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment
I could be you

Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You’d know what a drag it is
To see you

Well, since my baby left me
I found a new place to dwell
it's down at the end of Lonely Street
At Heartbreak Hotel

Well, I'll be
I'll be so lonely baby
Well, I'm so lonely
I'll be so lonely, you could die

Although it's always crowded
You still can find some room
For broken hearted lovers
To cry there in their gloom

They'll be so
They'll make you so lonely, baby
Well, they're so lonely
They're so lonely, they could die

The bell hop's tears keep flowin'
The desk clerk's dressed in black
Well, they been so long on Lonely Street
They'll never never look back

And they're so
Well, they're so lonely baby
Well, they're so lonely
Well, they're so lonely, they could die

Well, if your baby leaves you
You got a tale to tell
Just take a walk down Lonely Street
To Heartbreak Hotel

Where you will be
You'll be so lonely, baby
Well you'll be lonely
You'll be so lonely you could die

Etc etc, I had these lyrics on a sequence of wall charts around my room as Stones mad thirteen year old. I agree. But appreciation enhanced by reading the inspiration - Bulgakov`s masterpiece novel The Master and Margarita.

If he was from Venus, would he feed us with a spoon?
If he was from Mars, wouldn't that be cool?
Standing right on campus, would he stamp us in a file?
Hangin' down in Memphis all the while.

(chorussmiling smiley

Children by the million sing for Alex Chilton when he comes 'round
They sing "I'm in love. What's that song?
I'm in love with that song."

So he will rape and pillage in a village of his choice.
Invisible man who can sing in a visible voice.
Feeling like a hundred bucks, exchanging good lucks face to face.
Checkin' his stash by the trash at St. Mark's place.

(chorus)

I never travel far, without a little Big Star

Runnin' 'round the house, Mickey Mouse and the Tarot cards.
Falling asleep with a flop pop video on.
If he was from Venus, would he meet us on the moon?
If he died in Memphis, then that'd be cool, babe.

(chorus)

Ummm no its not. Its to figurative, to artsy; if the protagonist wants to make pretend he is the devil, thats great, its entertaining, its theater, but does nothing for me on a personal level spinning smiley sticking its tongue out. . .

the following lyrics of course are not "the greatest lyric ever written" because thats kinda foolish and there is no greatest anything . . .

but these lyrics I can relate to, these lyrics I can quote, these lyrics mean something to me on a profound level, these lyrics are an Anthem of a Generation, generation X that is smileys with beer. . . so troubled souls unite, we got ourselves tonight . . . so drop the leash and get outta my f*ckin face!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Troubled souls unite, we got ourselves tonight,
I am fuel, you are friends, we got the means to make amends
I am lost, I'm no guide, but I'm by your side
I am right by your side!!!!!!!!!!!

Young lover I stand
It was their idea, I proved to be a man?
Take my f*cking hand
It was their idea, I proved to be a man
Will myself to find a home, a home within myself
We will find a way, we will find our place

Drop the leash, drop the leash
Get outta' my f*ckin' face

Drop the leash, we are young

Delight, delight, delight in our youth
Get outta' my f*ckin' face...

At this show in 2006; the girl I was with cried like a little school girl when this song was played . . . the power of music I guess . . . PASSION!!!!!!!!
