Anyone play ''Time is On My Side'' without an F7?

Hello all,
I'm trying to play Time is On My Side without using an F7 on the bridge/spoken part.
My arthritis makes it hard to barre chords on the first 3 frets and it doesn't sound right on the 8th (A) or the 13th (E), nor does playing a normal F give you the right feel

Any help would be appreciated. As I play the song picking and strumming, I'd love to get some open strings involved.

Thank you in advance!!

Cafaro,

Long time no talk. Hope you and your family are doing fine. I'll never forget the posts of some great shows you uploaded for me a few years back. Still much appreciated today. Rock on brother.

Cafaro:

You can play F7 without a barre chord:

place your index finger on the fifth fret (cover the four lightest strings). Place your middle finger on the B-string on the sixth fret, your ring finger on the D-string on the seventh fret and your pinky on the G-string on the eight fret.

Then you have a F7, albeit without the bass root note. No open strings, though.

But wait a minute! Isn't TIOMS in F (alternating with F maj7 on the Still Life version)? If so, it is surely B you'll change to during the bridge?

Or maybe the studio version is in a different key - C, presumably?

Anyways, you got a F7, which you didn't want. Sorry, this post is a mess grinning smiley

would this work?
capo 1

organ and guitar [US LP take]; organ [US 45, UK LP take]:

A C#m F#7 B7
/ / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

Verse 1:

E A B
Time is on my side, yes it is (2x)
C#m B7 C#m F#7
Now you always say that you want to be free
B A
But you'll come runnin' back (3x)
B7
To me

Verse 2:

Time is on my side, yes it is (2x)
You're searchin' for good times, but just wait and see
But you'll come runnin' back (3x)
To me

Bridge (spoken):

A7
Go ahead, baby, go ahead
E7
Go ahead and lay it on the town
A7 E7
And baby, do anything your heart desires

Remember I'll always be around
A7 C#m
And I know, I know, like I told you so many times before
F#7
You're gonna come back, yeah, you're gonna come back baby
B7
Knockin', yeah, knockin' right on my door

As suggested a capo could be an easy way out, or change tonality.

One of the studio versions is lower than F, can't remember which one (but I think it is the organ one)

Then there is the majestic Winos version which is in C.

Other F7 variations here: [www.guitarchords247.com]

Also, ever here the version by the Moody Blues? Good piano parts by Mike Pinder on that one.

You don't need a F7 to play it like Keith did on the 81-82 tour.

Just F-Fmaj9-Bsharp etc etc.

The Middle8 will then be in Bsharp leading up to a and the minor chord in the song is a DM.

You don't need to barre any chords in this baby pal!!!

This is correct, but I presume he's talking about another version. Can't quite grasp which one, though..

Thanks for a post that made me laugh! I need that around here from time to time! Ever think about teaching the dogs to sings along? My buddy used to have a Chihuahua that would "sing" every time he played his electric guitar. He said the dog was great for covering his mistakes!

Peace,
Mr DJA

DJA, One of my beagles howls when I play. His voice is so loud that it startles me!
