Any thought about opening Hyde Park 1969 with a Johnny Winter cover?

It sounded all right.... Good start for the first live song ever with Taylor.. But not a Stones song. Tricky beat.

I've heard they chose to do it in '69 because it was a tune Brian dug.
Whether that's true or not I love the way they do it,
and I was really hoping they'd do it this year too.

Can you give us your evidence for this please? Winter covered BB King's “Be Careful with a Fool,” on his first album for CBS/Columbia.

"As we say in England, it can get a bit trainspottery"

Nice touch if it relates to Brian, but what ever the reason for playing it and playing it first, what a glorious racket they made. smoking smiley

That intro is the highlight of the entire gig (in fairness, the whole song is great).

(I was about to type that it was 'worth the price of admission on its own' and then I remembered it was a free show.,....)

For once, I agree with all the above (except the Winter confusion, of course)--it was an absolutely inspired, ballsy choice. smiling smiley

Hello, I am back from the UK, where I finally unearthed the (my) motherlode of Stones clippings and publications from the 60s and 70s (Bill Wyman eat your heart out). In only a few weeks/months they will arrive on these shores! Then I can scan anything you haven't seen a zillion times alteady.

Woohoo! thumbs up

I'd love to read more of your little notes on things as they happened, the stuff about the 1966 UK tour was priceless.

For me, the best moment from an otherwise lackluster performance. Historically significant, of course.

I'll dig some out, I have more time on my hands these days.

Among all these clippings I found a bunch of concert programs complete with ticket stubs and the envelopes the tickets arrived in! grinning smiley

Johnny Winter was white-hot at the time...
