OT: Which Jimmy Reed cd to buy?

Hello everybody,

due to Ronnie's upcoming concert I listened to Jimmy Reed for the first time in my life - and I like his music a lot!

Since there are so many cd's listed on amazon, can anyone recommend me a record for a start into the music of Jimmy Reed?

Thanks a lot!!
Sebastian

There an excellent one disc comp called "best of the vee-jay years" that makes for a great introduction.

or go all out and get the two disc anthology

I've Got:

The Sun Is Shining

And:

Boss Man

And am happy with both.

The one's andrewt referenced look pretty good as well. I love me some Jimmy Reed.

Peace,
Mr DJA

EDIT/ADD: Want to second what “The Ghost of Good Taste” said just below: "if there were a 3 or 4 disc comp, I'd push that - basically, get as much as you can, Jimmy Reed is a monster!" (GREAT advice Ghost!)

The Boss Man disc I mentioned above is a two disc set but I’d buy a 3-4-5-6 disc set with duplicates of my single & double disc collections just to get the additional tracks. Yes, I’m a fan.

I second the 2-disc compilation (if there were a 3 or 4 disc comp, I'd push that - basically, get as much as you can, Jimmy Reed is a monster!). At some point, I found a complete singles compilation for download, and couldn't believe how consistently excellent it was. The Jimmy Reed bio (Boss Man?) is fun as well.

These 3 are all pretty essential albums -

I'm Jimmy Reed (1958) - this has Honest I Do, My First Plea and Ain't That Loving You Baby

Rockin' With Reed (1959) - this has Going To New York, Take Out Some Insurance, Wanna Be Loved

Found Love (1960) - this has Baby What You Want Me To Do, Big Boss Man, I Ain't Got You

Anyone you can find Sespin. He plays lots of his stuff the same like all old blues guys. You either love him though or hate him, right? And if you like one Jimmy Reed song your gonna love em all. Like Elmore James. Most songs follow the same pattern but each has its own charm.

BTW,
I like Boz Scaggs's Come On Home.
He covers great songs like Jimmy Reed's Found Love.

I think the one Rockman posted is the one I found for download - definitely be on the lookout for that.

For those that don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of all the outtakes, here are a couple of Jimmy Reed gems from the lads.
