which stones songs are the ones that evoke the most melancholic or sad emotions in you? lyricwise or just the general mood or even the special meaning it has for your life.

i got the blues
how can i stop
when blue turns to grey
allready over me
as tears go by
locked away (kr)

no expectations or wild horses come immediately to mind.

outside of the stones - john prine's hello in there always reduces to me to a sloppy mess (sloppier than usual, even)....

Interesting. Let's mention all Stones songs in a minor key. I'm starting easily:

Paint It Black

No Expectations is one of the saddest but not in the way songs are usually so. Rather than being plaintive, it's sad in its complete resignation.

Agree Wild Horses, but the 75 live, slower, electric versions. Sad songs, sad songs, oh yeah!

Moonlight Mile, if only for the coda, deserves a mention of honor

Streets of Love makes me sad. Not because it's a sad song, but because it's such a bad song.

On the 1969 tour, Under My Thumb had a rather sad feel to it. Depressing, really.

Greetings from the Jersey Shore.

Sad Day
Thru The Lonely Nights

That Hell's Angle guy freaking out during Under My Thumb has always freaked *me* out. The camera men were amazing in that movie. They had license to pick out items of interest and you see it throughout the movie. The other magical thing is that they were shooting film, not video. Film still looks way better than the best video, there is just no comparison.

Also, Through the Lonely Nights for sure!

A bit of trivia for you Rockman. The Stones and Dylan both made comeback records in in 89, and the last words on the fade out of side two on each was "slip(ping) away"
