Shave and a Haircut

Mona and Not Fade Away have been favourite tracks of mine since I bought the early Stones stuff as a teenager. It's that Bo Diddley beat that's irresistible.

I was reminded of it recently whilst watching a broadcast of Eric Clapton's Crossroad Guitar Festival from a few years back when EC was joined by Derek Trucks and Robbie Robertson for a version of Who Do You Love, which is fabulously exciting.

Not many artists have covered Bo Diddley that well but the Stones were a band that did because of their respect for the man back then. Who else can be said to play Bo Diddley with that same love and respect, anyone got any candidates?

This is what happened to Bo Diddley's most famous song once the long hairs got hold of it. And it's purdy damned good!

I still think the Stones do it best. It's their loose elastic timing that does it.
