OT-Blues Cruise

Just got back from the Bluse Cruse in the Caribbean. The following blues artist performed on the cruise:

Taj Mahal-my first time seeing him in person, I saw him 3-times and each was outstanding. What an awsome performer.

Deanna Bogart--excellant piano player and perfomer

Mitch Woods--nice piano player,he played some killer boogie-woogie
Rick Estrin-harp player, really good, this is a acquired taste.
Big James & Playboys-Chicago brass blues band, nice sound
Tommy Castro-- he rocked the joint (the ship)
Debbie Davies and Gena Sciaclia-- Debbie plays guitar, good singer and Gena is a new blues singer and she was excellant, heard her 3 times. Her name may be spelled wrong, if I find the correct spelling I will post ( sorry) but check her out.

Bob Margolin--only saw him briefly but I was impressed.

We saw a few other which I will have to look up. Deanna and Taj were just breath-taking. Gena was a nice new find, and if you like piano boogie-woogie Mitch Woods was really good.

If you like blues music and want a week of the blues, go on the cruise. I enjoyed it and would recommend it. I also missed the snowy weather on the east coast too, I was in St.John swimming in Turk Bay while it was snowing. St.John has a little local place that serves the best barbeue also, I had a combo and a Red Stripe.

yeah, bob was in muddy's last great band of the 70's - he and Luther Johnson (Guitar Jr.) - were muddy's two axemen for a number of years. he's had a decent solo career these past 3 decades or so.

for a caribbean cruise, there sure were alot of california cats. tommy castro rarely ventures out that far....he's a prized blooze guy from norcal - used to see him often in the bay area...

No depressions, it was in the high 80's each day, a bit windy. Each day the concerts would begin about noon on three different stages and go until after midnight. You got all the blues music you could ask for. I discovered some blues artists that I had not heard before. Check out Janiva Magness.

I always enjoyed the part with the animated dog. I was surprised that the show kept on after the departure of the human host, Steve. Although I thought Joe was ok, I still preferred Steve.
