1.love is strong--gonna have to go with the VL single for 1st, although I'm not crazy about the song, I love the vibe of the song and the album

2. saint of me--Should have been the first single from BtB. A local radio station still plays this one occasionally.

3. mixed emotions--sounds great; liked it instantly. On the downside, it's real slick like the rest of Steel (greased) Wheels. Before my time, so I've only heard it in the context of 25x5, which prompted me to get the Steel Wheels album, which was a major disappointment.

4. Anybody seen my baby--I heard a very crappy RealPlayer embedded (or whatever it was called) preview of this one on the web before Bridges came out and I was floored..in a bad way. It colored my perception of the album for years. I listened again recently and I liked it a little better.

5. Streets of love--kind of grows on you I guess. Not the kind of song I'd choose for a single. But Angie grew on me too. Angie is much better.

6. Highwire--Heard it maybe three years after release (ala Mixed Emotions). I first was exposed to this after suffering through Flashpoint. It didn't make much of an impression on me, I guess.

0) Don't Stop

1) Highwire

2) Saint Of Me

3) Love Is Strong

4) Mixed Emotions

5) Anybody Seen My Baby

6) Streets Of Love

I've listed them in the order that I prefer them. "Sad Sad Sad" would have been my choice for 1st single from Steel Wheels, and "She Saw Me Coming" would have been a single from ABB. The singles from B2B were all good choices, but from VL, I would have only released one of the following two: either "You Got Me Rocking" or "I Go Wild" because they are way too similar. Instead, "Jump On Top Of Me" should have become a hit. I don't understand the original poster's omission of "Don't Stop", because in my list, it clearly belongs at the top.

Ha ha - I remember that Real Audio clip very well too. You put it very well -It sure made me very skeptical about the BTB album too for ages. Just recently, at a visit at my mother in law ( who loves it) I got to listen to it a lot - and I must say the album - a few mick songs aside - is really good! It has certainly grown on me.

LOVE IS STRONG. Love the video, too.

(The song reminds of the the Cramps' HUMAN FLY. I even wonder if it was an influence, although probably not.)

Highwire - Honestly I think this is the Stones in a serious edgy rocking groove like they hadn't sounded in years. It got lost as a bonus track from Flashpoint. I think it's a truly great song with everybody in fine form and the recording and production has some bite. It still sounds a touch sterilized by modern technology but not too much. Too bad they didn't play it live (that I know of).

It freaks me out that it's positively ancient now and it's from the "New new new Stones!"

Highwire, followed closely by Love is Strong and Saint of Me. The other three range from lamely polished to flat-out awful.

Love is strong.

(I am reluctant to name favorites, because it might suggest that I might not like some
other songs, but this one song is so very resonant with me, I gladly make an exception
for it).

Love Is Strong - their most underrated single of the last 30 years. Surprised it didn't get more of a live airing on the last few tours.
