I was on the same flight as most of the Stones (and band) back to London yesterday.
I just sat down in the BA lounge at Dulles when I turned 'round and saw Ronnie.
Then Keith walked past me - my face must have looked a picture because he made a great comment "don't worry, you'll get over it". Charlie arrived, and others of the entourage/family etc. all very relaxed - like any other group of travellers.
What do you do? I had nodded to Ronnie who smiled back; had a few words with two of the security guys who were there ("don't worry I'll leave everyone in peace"). Didn't take a photo, approach or intrude - almost felt embarrassed to be entering their private space. Maybe a bit over-whelmed - sounds crazy.
Then Keith comes over un-prompted and shakes my hand, I say "thanks for all the great shows including last night" he says "hey thats OK" and then I get the "heart and head" fist salute.
Fantastic moment - but I still feel a bit uncomfortable - I wasn't stalking of searching them out. Wow what a trip back!
I ran in to Ron at the Philly art museum and had the briefest of conversations, but you saw Keith and Ron and spoke with Keith - that is a great moment for you. Many congratulations.
Sweet reward for exceptional fan behaviour, I don't know if i'd have been able to hold it back as well as you did. My gaping mouth and wide eyed wonder and slobbering desire would be a dead giveaway for a SuperFan = Potential Annoyence Scenario that Security look for, saying that I got past intimate security to meet and share a drink with Bobby Keys in 1995 and I was cool as, Bobby signed me a wonderful autograph.
A salute from Keith, i'd float 6 inches off the ground for a long time
Love the story, especially the bits about Keith! So brilliant that he came back to shake your hand and exchange a few words. It must have been a truly gobsmacking moment!
Wow, crazy that they are flying commercial. I flew out of the private terminal at Dulles yesterday and was hoping to see them there. With today's fuel costs, it would probably cost about 200K to charter a flight from DC to the UK. Seems well within their range. That's definitely conservative for them. I might be reading a little into this (but that is what we do on this board) but there seems to be more to this. I wanna know why?
No Chuck to a GreyHound bus back to Georgia. I ran in to him at the the Truck Stop Lounge next door to the terminal. He was chatting up an unescorted lady and disappeared outside for a bit. The barman dumped his half glass of beer out which Chuck groused about when he got back.
