The ever affable Mr. Wood spoke with long time Philly DJ (and Stones diehard) Pierre Robert last week. A very enjoyable listen.

I remember in '81 when they sent out Bill to radio stations. Now they trust Ronnie enough to do it, because Mick, Keith & Charlie sure aren't going to do it.

Charlie will do interviews when promoting his solo jazz projects--because he frankly is not interested in talking about The Stones, as some interviewers will tell you. Mick and Keith mainly do the high-profile magazine cover type interviews. So that leaves Ronnie to do the small-market city-by-city radio interviews, and Ronnie is fun to interview because he is endlessly enthusiastic about The Stones, still remembers when he wanted to be in that band, so he also has a fan's perspective and is the right one to do this kind of PR for the band.

Pierre Robert and WMMR are both a throw back to what FM rock radio used to be. A jock who genuinely loves the music and is very knowledgeable about it, and WMMR still just plays rock. Not compartmentalized into "classic rock" or "alternative" or any other classification. If it rocks, they play it. You might hear the Stones, Metallica, Nirvana, ELO, the Doors, Buckcherry, The Byrds, Alabama Shakes and Iggy Pop all in the same set. If you're in town for the concerts give it a listen at 93.3, it really is a local treasure IMO. Robert's show has been 10-2 for the last 30 years.

You're lucky to have that kind of radio still on the air. WMMR must be one of the last independent, non-corporate stations in existence.

Interesting that Ronnie said Jagger has a list of guests that he wants that he doesn't really share with the rest and that the rest doesn't really care. This of course what most of us thought but I expected that there was some input or discussion when others might have some ideas about guests.

Cheers,
Wuudy

Thanks for posting, and gave me goosebumps to hear Ronnie talk about the day they let us in to listen to the rehearsals in Bondy (outskirts of Paris, weather was terrible, made them warm inside/out, etc...) !

Pierre Robert's on now. Lot of Stones, of course, and pieces from the MMaRchives.

I Ran into Pierre last year at the Ronnie Wood Concert in Atlantic City. Everyone wanted their picture taken with him. He also did an exclusive interview with the Stones when they did the Exile Outtakes....
